Chris Powell has attempted to get his Southend players back in the right frame of mind as they prepare for a tough encounter with Fleetwood Town this weekend.
Powell’s side have struggled so far this season and find themselves in 18th position in the division. With just one point between them and a place in the early bottom four, Powell is eager to build his side up as much as he can.
“They’re a terrific bunch here and they’re all hurting but we have to put all negative thoughts to one side because we have to win a football match,” said Powell. “We have to stick together, be as one and I have full trust in the boys that we will get through it.”
The home form has been a concern for Powell, they’ve lost to Peterborough, Doncaster and Charlton at Roots Hall, something that he feels has to change.
“We’ve lost three games at home and won one and that’s not right. We have to give them something to shout about and be proud of. I know they want entertainment and goals and we’ve had that but we’ve been on the wrong side of that so far and we want and need that to change.”
The pressure is on at Roots Hall, they’ve got a talented squad but it doesn’t seem to be coming together for them.
The big question is over who will score their goals. Tom Hopper hasn’t risen to the occasion as yet, nor has Theo Robinson.
It could be a long season on the south coast.
