Notts County make double-swoop ahead of Stevenage visit

Notts County have completed the signing of free agents Cedric Evina and Jamie Turley ahead of their home clash with Stevenage tomorrow.

Both defenders are well-known to new Notts boss Harry Kewell, having previously played for him at previous club Crawley Town.

26-year old Evina. spent last season on loan with Kewell, having previously been with Doncaster Rovers. He plays as a left back, whilst 28-year old Turley was on loan to Crawley in 2017-18. He made 34 appearances under Kewell’s management before leaving Doncaster at the end of his contract.

Kewell was delighted to pick up Turley, saying: “I wanted to sign Jamie because I was impressed by him during his trial period, but the owners (at Crawley) had other ideas so it’s a stroke of luck to bring him here. He is an excellent player with strength, speed and the flexibility to play on the right or in the heart of the defence.”

Of Evina, Kewell said: “He gets up and down the pitch, is composed on the ball and comes to the club knowing my ideas, which is comforting for me.”

Our View

Will Notts fans be particularly excited about this double swoop? Both players were at Crawley last season and they finished a mid table. one was even released, although Kewell now blames the owners, not himself for that move.

Notts need something at the back, fans will hope these two go some way to shoring up a terrible defence.
