David Flitcroft is working hard to add to his squad ahead of Friday’s transfer deadline.
The Stags are still fearful they could lose transfer-listed striker Danny Rose, and they have a real shortage of defenders. Flitcroft has started to favour three at the back, making a centre half a priority at this stage of the season.
David Flitcroft confirmed his is still working hard to make sure they are not left short. “We are still looking to recruit,” he told the Chad. “We have a couple of players that could potentially get international call-ups, so that’s something we are mindful of. They could miss two or three games if that happens.”
Mansfield are unbeaten in League Two this season, but have seen many games drawn which leaves them in 13th place with seven points.
“We are looking at it as we want to make sure before the window closes that we are locked in and don’t have that situation where you are grasping and clutching at straws. It has to be design. We are looking at every eventuality and we will continue to do that.”
There has been talk of a move for out of contract centre back Reece Brown, formerly of Rochdale, as well as a potential loan swoop for Sunderland’s youngster Brandon Taylor. Neither have been confirmed by official sources.
Our View
The Stags are in an interesting position, they’re on win away from making this a decent start to the season, one defeat away from it being a poor start. The defining game is a winnable home tie against Carlisle. Win that, they’ll be tucked in nicely. Lose it and the early pressure shifts onto the manager.
He does need a couple of new faces, but the big-spending Stags seem to have run out of funds at a crucial time. Will heaping their eggs into the Neil Bishop, Tyler Walker and Otis Khan basket come back to haunt them?
