Macclesfield Town fought back from the disappointment of losing a two goal lead to draw at Walsall last night in the EFL Cup, winning after a penalty shoot out.
Their night had started well enough, Jamie Grimes and Harry Smith had given them a two-goal lead, but the League One side battled back. They scored three, including two in a minute, to lead the tie 3-2.
It stayed that way until the last-minute of injury time, when Tyrone Marsh snatched a last-gasp draw.
In the age on no extra time, it was straight to penalties where on-loan goalkeeper Kieran O’Hara made a hat trick of penalty saves to send them into the next round. Cue scenes of jubilation as the Silkmen made it to the third round of the competition for the first time in their history.
Their fans took to Twitter to express their joy, hoping this win could be the catalyst for improved League Two form, with them second from bottom after five games.
Only the 4 penalty saves better than De Gea 🤣🤣🤣
