Wealdstone

Founded in 1899, Wealdstone are one of the many clubs that make up the footballing landscape in London. Despite its long history, The Stones are one of many National League clubs that have never entered the EFL. Despite that, there is plenty of highlights and lowlights across their storied past and this guide from The Real EFL will detail the club’s history, it’s current outlook and squad as well as what the club’s future could possibly entail.
Wealdstone Updates
Wealdstone are battling for survival in their fifth season in the National League. They have been in and around the conversation of relegation for most of the season, not helped by the tenure of former Walsall manager Matt Taylor, which was brought to an end in January. He was replaced by current manager Neil Gibson. The club’s top goalscorer is Alex Reid, who has found the net 13 times this season.
Last season was a tough but positive season for The Stones. Whilst they fell short of their 13th-place finish from the season prior, they still put in a good performance to finish 16th. However, they did suffer a major blow in the middle of the season after long-serving manager Stuart Maynard was poached by League Two side Notts County. He was replaced by David Noble for the remainder of that campaign.
Wealdstone Transfer News and Rumours
With non-league teams being allowed to make signings across the season, there will be constant links between potential free agents and clubs. Wealdstone are yet to make any signings since January and under new boss Neil Gibson.
Wealdstone Signings
As with many National League clubs, Wealdstone have had a heavy turnover of players and regularly reinforce their squad with free transfers and loans across the season. Players are often signed on short-term deals to allow them to be flexible in the case of injuries and other commitments.

Wealdstone Key Achievements
Wealdstone are a successful team at the non-league level, having never played in the English Football League for their entire existence. They became the first side to do a ‘non-league double’ winning the National League and FA Trophy in the 1984/85 season. However, due to teams having to be elected to the EFL, they were not given a place in the Fourth Division. In their history, they have also won an FA Amateur Cup in 1965/66 and the National League North in the 2019/20 season.
Wealdstone Current Squad
Wealdstone have a large squad and as one of the few teams in the National League that are not full-time professional, some of their squad will not be available every match.
Wealdstone Attackers
Wealdstone currently have six attackers in their squad, and made their latest addition just this month with the signing of former Exeter City man Mustapha Carayol. Top scorer Alex Reid has lead the line for most of this season whilst on loan from Oldham. Wealdstone also have Tyler Walker, Will Randall, Micah Obiero and Sean Adarkwa.
Wealdstone Midfielders
Wealdstone have plenty of diverse options to choose from when it comes to their midfield. Their defensive midfield options includes players like Alex Dyer, who is also an assistant coach with the club, and Craig Eastmond. Some of their box-to-box players are Max Kretzchmar and Todd Miller. Jacob Berkley-Agyepong is an attacking midfielder, and there are a few winger options like Enzio Boldewijn.
Wealdstone Defenders
Wealdstone have some former Premier League experience within their defensive ranks. Former Watford centre-back Adrian Mariappa joined the club from Salford City over the summer, and is partnered at the back by players like Jack Cook and Deon Woodman. On the wings, Anthony Georgiou, Connor McAvoy and Joshua Grant are all capable options.
Wealdstone Goalkeepers
Wealdstone have had a lot of goalkeepers over the season, with five different players making a matchday squad at one point. Luca Gunter is the current first choice keeper at the club, taking over from Archie Matthews at the start of the season. Jacob Adams had a brief stint between the sticks, whilst James Hillson and Dante Baptiste are back-up choices.

Neil Gibson
Neil Gibson is the current manager at Wealdstone, taking charge of the club since January of 2025. It is the first time the Welshman has managed in English football, having spent the rest of his career in his home country’s league with Connah’s Quay Nomads and Prestatyn Town.
Lee Jones
Lee Jones is the Assistant Manager at Wealdstone, joining alongside Gibson. Another coach at Prestatyn Town, Jones has also featured as a caretaker manager at this level with Wrexham and has since managed the Tranmere Rovers academy.
Wealdstone Former Managers and Key Coaches
- The club originally had a team selection committee in place to choose the squads, but opted to change that position and appointed their first manager in 1961 as Vince Burgess. He would lead the club to it’s FA Amateur Cup win in 1966.
- Allen Batsford put the club back into the National League, and his successor in Brian Hall became the most successful in Wealdstone’s history when winning the non-league double in 1985.
- Gordon Bartlett is by far their longest serving manager, leading the club for 22 years and was the longest serving manager in the top six tiers of English football prior to his retirement in 2017.
- Dean Brennan returned the club back to the National League in 2020 but left the following year after disagreements with the board.
- His assistant Stuart Maynard took over and led the club for a further three years, and achieved the club’s best ever league finish in 35 years with a 13th place finish in the fifth tier. He was poached by Notts County in 2024.
- David Noble was his replacement but did not last beyond the end of that season.
- Matty Taylor was given the job over the summer of 2024 but struggled and was removed and replaced by current boss Neil Gibson

Jacob Mendy

Jacob Mendy was a dynamic defender with 89 appearances and 19 goals for Wealdstone. In 2022/21 season, he helped the team win the National league South title.
Wealdstone Team Metrics and Performance
Wealdstone’s last season was a very disrupted campaign after losing Stuart Maynard halfway through the season to League Two side Notts County. After some brilliant results under him, and briefly topping the National League under his tutilege. The Stones looked to David Noble to lead them through the remainder of his last season and was sacked prior to the end of the season. Wealdstone finished 16th last season, four points above the relegation zone in the fifth tier with 56 points. They were 15 points behind FC Halifax Town in the play-off places. They scored 60 goals and conceded 72 to finish on a goal difference of -12.
This season has seen Wealdstone match the same goal of avoiding relegation from the National League, and have also had to change managers halfway through the season, with former Walsall boss Matty Taylor dismissed in January and replaced by Neil Gibson.

Wealdstone Pitch and Amenities
Wealdstone play at Grosvenor Vale, which has been their home since 2008. The Stones purchased the lease to the ground upon their arrival and became the replacements to Ruislip Manor, who were forced to relocate and subsequently rebranded as London Rangers. Grosvenor Vale is also home to Watford FC Women, sharing the stadium for the past three years. The ground has a capacity of 4,085, only 709 of those being seats, all in one stand. The large remainder of the stadium is standing room, allowing fans to get close up to the pitch. Supporters have raised funds since their time at the ground to add small improvements to the facilities.
Wealdstone Fanbase and Support
With London being home to so many professional clubs, it is hard for many non-league sides in the area to gain a real following. Wealdstone have a small but passionate fanbase, centred around the ground’s base in Hillingdon, Harrow and Ruislip. Perhaps Wealdstone is best known by football fans for their most prominent supporter in The Wealdstone Raider, real name Gordon Hill, who went viral through a YouTube video in 2013.
Wealdstone Rivalries and Notable Matches
Wealdstone’s biggest rivals are Barnet, a fellow North London side, but the matches between them have been few and far between due to The Bees being a Football League team for many of their recent years. They have played regularly since 2020 and Wealdstone have bested them on four occasions since then. Other non-league rivals for Wealdstone include Enfield Town and Harrow, with the latter being their most local derby match

Wealdstone History
Wealdstone were founded in 1899 and played in local leagues for much of their early existence. After briefly being disbanded towards the end of the next decade, the club returned and moved up into the London League following World War I. They moved into the Athenian League, a forerunner to the Isthmian League and played there for multiple decades. They joined the Isthmian League in 1964 and immediately found success with an FA Amateur Cup win two seasons later. They went into the Southern League a few seasons later, becoming a professional side in the process.
In 1979, Wealdstone became a founder member of the Alliance League, which would eventually become the National League. They were one of the most successful sides in its early years, punctuated by their 1984/85 non-league double. Due to EFL rules around clubs having to be elected into their competitions, Wealdstone have never made the leap upwards. Financial decline came in the 1990s and saw the club plummet down the divisions, but under Gordon Bartlett, they were saved from ruin and built a solid foundation. They have bounced up and down between the National League and the National League South since then, and currently are in the National League after winning the South title in 2019/20.
