Derby County vs Leicester City: Prediction, Lineups & Odds (06/12/25)

Derby County welcome a struggling Leicester City to Pride Park on Saturday in the East Midlands derby as both teams look to move into the top half of the Championship.

Our Three Predictions For Derby County vs Leicester City

  • First Prediction: Double Chance – Derby County or Draw – 1/2
  • Second Prediction: Both Teams To Score – 17/20
  • Third Prediction: Over 2.5 Goals – 23/20

First Prediction For Derby County vs Leicester City – Double Chance – Derby County Or Draw – 1/2

After a poor start which saw them win 1 of their opening 10 games, Derby have elevated themselves up the table in recent weeks. A 1-0 victory over Norwich City on October 21st kickstarted a run of 5 successive maximum points hauls.

This came to an end against Watford last month when John Eustace’s side blew a 2-goal lead to lose 3-2. The Rams bounced back to record an excellent 2-1 win away at Swansea City but do head into this game on the back of a defeat.

Despite an early goal from Patrick Agyemang, the East Midlands-based outfit once again let their opponents back in the game. This time it was Middlesbrough, who secured the points with a 2-1 triumph in Kim Hellberg’s first game in charge.

Leicester‘s form over this season is in stark contrast to their local rivals. The Foxes returned to the Championship following relegation from the Premier League in May, losing just 1 of their opening 10 fixtures.

It appeared as if the decision to bring in former Queens Park Rangers boss Marti Cifuentes in the summer was one that would pay off. However, the 2016 English champions have lost 5 of their last 8 to slip into the bottom half of the table.

Their most recent outings saw them lost 3-0 at Southampton, and it looked as if they would suffer a repeat at the weekend when they trailed at the half time break to Sheffield United at half time. Some changes at the break swung the tide back in favour of Leicester, but goals from Stephy Mavididi and Jordan James proved too little too late.

As such, Derby will be confident they can secure a first victory over Leicester since 2013.

Second Prediction For Derby County vs Leicester City – Both Teams To Score – 17/20

On paper, this looks a shoo-in. Only Southampton have been involved in more games where both teams have score than Derby.

The Rams have scored and conceded in the same game in 72% of their league fixtures to date. This includes their last 6 outings, stretching back to the end of October.

Meanwhile, Leicester also rank high in this market. The Foxes stand at 67% here, which equates to just 1 game less than their East Midlands rivals.

Marti Cifuentes’ side have also been consistent when it comes to this prediction in recent weeks. Four of their last 5 games have seen both nets breached, with the sole exception being that loss at Southampton.

Third Prediction For Derby County vs Leicester City – Over 2.5 Goals – 23/20

Despite both teams ranking high in the both teams to score market, the same can’t be said for over 2.5 goals. The pair have identical records here, with 50% of their fixtures generating 3 or more goals.

That’s a testament to just how often they both draw 1-1, with 8 games between them finishing that scoreline so far this season. However, this looks like it could go higher.

Derby have been involved in high scoring games in each of their last 6 outings. This run includes their last 2 at Pride Park, where they lost 3-2 to Watford and beat Hull City 2-1.

As for Leicester, 67% of their away games have seen this prediction come in. Their last 2 trips have both achieved this feat, with the Southampton loss accompanied by a 2-1 victory at Norwich City.

Full Preview Of The Game: Last Results And Head-To-Head:

We’ve seen two different Derby’s this season. The opening 10 games looked as if they could be geared up for a second successive relegation scrap, where they won just once.

It’s been a different story since, emerging victorious in 6 of their last 8. The Rams enjoyed 5 successive wins between October and November, which included excellent results against the likes of Sheffield United (3-1) and Hull City (2-1).

John Eustace’s side have blipped a little in recent weeks though. They blew a 2-goal lead to lose 3-2 to Watford, although recovered to beat Swansea City (2-1). The East Midlands-based outfit do head into this on the back of a defeat though, having once again let a lead slip to lose 2-1 at Middlesbrough at the weekend.

Leicester have seriously underwhelmed since dropping into the Championship in the summer. Although they won 3 of their first 4, they slipped down the table somewhat following a run of 5 draws in 6.

Things have gotten worse for the Foxes in recent weeks though. Marti Cifuentes has overseen 5 losses from their last 8, which includes back-to-back defeats heading into this fixture against Southampton (3-0) and Sheffield United (3-2). As a result, the 2016 Premier League champions currently sit 16th in the division.

This is the first East Midlands derby since a FA Cup fourth round replay in 2017. Leicester emerged victorious on that occasion, extending their unbeaten run against their rivals to 5 games.

Derby’s last victory in this fixture came back in 2013, although they do hold the more successful record over the years. The Rams have won 46 of the previous 107 clashes, with Leicester triumphing on 34 occasions.

The pair have played out 28 draws, the last of which came in that FA Cup fourth round clash in 2017. You have to go back to 2009 for the last time these two cancelled each other out in the league.
