Our Three Predictions For Leicester City vs Sheffield United

  • First Prediction: Leicester City To Win – 19/20
  • Second Prediction: Both Teams To Score – 17/20
  • Third Prediction: Over 2.5 Goals – 21/20

First Prediction For Leicester City vs Sheffield United – Leicester City To Win – 19/20

Leicester have underwhelmed since suffering relegation from the Premier League last season. Opting to replace Ruud van Nistelrooy with Marti Cifuentes in the summer, it’s taken a while for the former Queens Park Rangers boss to find his feet.

The Foxes suffered a 3-0 defeat against Southampton on Tuesday night in a result which saw them move into the bottom half of the table. It was a game which did end a mini 3-game unbeaten run though, which included an excellent home victory over promotion challengers Stoke City.

Only Blackburn Rovers have left the King Power Stadium with all 3 points and this seems like the perfect opportunity to bounce back from their midweek blip.

Meanwhile, Sheffield United moved out of the relegation places on Wednesday with an impressive 3-0 victory over Portsmouth. It was their second successive game where they have won by that scoreline, having beaten rivals Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday.

Still, there’s little doubt that the Blades have been poor on the road, having lost to Coventry City and Preston North End in their 2 away outings prior to the trip to Hillsborough.

Second Prediction For Leicester City vs Sheffield United – Both Teams To Score – 17/20

Leicester rank fairly high in this market, with 11 of their 17 Championship fixtures seeing both teams score. This equates to 65% of their overall outings, although the figure falls slightly to 63% at the King Power Stadium.

Despite that, the Foxes have scored and conceded in 4 of their last 5 games in front of their own supporters. This includes three 1-1 draws against Middlesbrough, Portsmouth and Wrexham, as well as a 2-1 victory over Stoke.

Meanwhile, Sheffield United sit bottom of the table in this market, with just 35% of their games this season achieving this feat. That’s a number only matched by Stoke, although a lot of this can be put down to their early season form under Ruben Selles.

The Blades have kept 3 successive clean sheets but may struggle to replicate that against a Leicester team still harbouring promotion ambitions. Chris Wilder will be confident his team can at least score though, having found the back of the net 6 times in their last 2 games.

Third Prediction For Leicester City vs Sheffield United – Over 2.5 Goals – 21/20

Leicester haven’t been the most exciting team to watch this season, especially at the King Power Stadium. Although 47% of their fixtures have produced 3 or more goals, only 2 of those have come at home.

The win over Stoke last weekend was the first time the Foxes had achieved this marker since the opening day, when they secured a 2-1 win over Sheffield Wednesday. Still, Sheffield United are in decent goalscoring form and it’s likely that Marti Cifuentes’ side will need to find the back of the net at least twice to return to winning ways.

The Blades do rank higher in this market, with 53% of their outings being high scoring affairs. This includes 6 of their last 7, with the only anomaly coming in the way of a 0-0 draw with Queens Park Rangers earlier this month.

Full Preview Of The Game: Last Results And Head-To-Head:

Marti Cifuentes enjoyed a decent start to life at Leicester, losing just 1 of his opening 10 league games. However, this included a run of 4 successive draws in September.

A 3-1 win over Swansea City at the beginning of October saw the Foxes rise to third in the table, but form has faltered since. A trio of losses to Hull City (2-1), Millwall (1-0) and Blackburn Rovers (2-0) saw them tumble down the table.

The rot was halted with a 1-1 home draw against promotion chasing Middlesbrough in November, which was swiftly followed by back-to-back victories over Norwich City (2-1) and Stoke City (2-1). The East Midlands-based outfit suffered a thumping on Tuesday night though, when they lost 3-0 at a revitalised Southampton.

Sheffield United’s early form has been well documented. The summer decision to part company with Chris Wilder and replace him with Ruben Selles proved to be an unmitigated disaster, and it wasn’t long before owners COH Sports Group went crawling back to their former boss.

Although an upturn in fortunes wasn’t immediate, things have started to improve in recent weeks. The Blades are unbeaten in their last 3, starting with a 0-0 draw with Queens Park Rangers prior to the international break.

They followed this with an excellent 3-0 victory over bitter rivals Sheffield Wednesday before beating Portsmouth by the same scoreline on Wednesday. As a result, the Yorkshire-based side have moved out of the bottom 3 for the first time this season.

Leicester have been by far the dominant force in this fixture in recent times. They’ve won the last 7 meetings against the Blades and are unbeaten in 10.

The last clash came during the 2020/21 Premier League campaign, which the Foxes won 5-0. Sheffield United last tasted victory in 2008, winning 3-0 at Bramall Lane. Their last win at the King Power Stadium came the year before.

Despite Leicester’s recent superiority, the overall head-to-head record is surprisingly close. The home side have won 35 of the previous 98 meetings, with Sheffield United winning 31. The pair have played out 32 draws, the last of which was in 2010.
