Barrow Midfielder Expresses Delight On Short Term Loan Move

Barrow midfielder Regan Booty has expressed his delight at joining National League side Boreham Wood on a short-term deal until January.

The 27-year-old has had a poor run of games since joining the Cumbrian outfit in the summer.

Right Place Right Time

Barrow sit 17th in League Two with the familiar task of securing survival under manager Andy Whing. The Cumbrians have been a picture of inconsistency once again this season, capable of smash-and-grab away wins one week and heavy home defeats the next. After promotion in 2019/20 and comfortable mid-table finishes since, Whing knows another scrap against relegation is likely.

With the squad bolstered by summer signings, including midfielder Regan Booty on a 3-year deal, the loan departure of Booty to Boreham Wood this week highlights the fine margins Barrow are working with as they aim to stay in the EFL for a 6th straight year.

Across the country, Booty has now joined a Boreham Wood side flying high in the National League. Under long-serving boss Luke Garrard, now in his tenth year at Meadow Park, the Wood are 5th with 38 points from 20 matches. Garrard has transformed the club from a mid-table outfit into play-off contenders. This season feels different.

A club-record unbeaten league run earlier in the campaign has raised genuine belief that Boreham Wood could reach the Football League for the first time in their 77-year history.

With Booty adding quality and versatility to the squad, the Hertfordshire side is firmly in the promotion hunt as the halfway stage approaches.

A Good Switch: Why Is Booty So Delighted To Make The Switch

Speaking to Boreham Wood’s official YouTube page, Booty said:

“It’s come around really quick. I only first found out about the interest (on Sunday), so it’s probably took two or three hours to get it all sorted.”

“I’m really happy to be here. I think this club has got plaudits for all the right reasons this season from the first 15 to 20 games for the way they are playing football.”

“So, as soon as the interest was there, it was the perfect place for me to go and play and start enjoying my football again, and get loads more games under my belt.”

“I’ve had a really positive conversation with the gaffer about what he wants from me, what he wants from his team.”

“Then obviously this year has changed for me.”

Regan Booty has built a steady career predominantly through England’s lower leagues with a blend of versatility and determination. Football runs in the family also as he is the son of former professional defender Martyn Booty, who made over 200 appearances during his own career.

The midfielder joined Huddersfield Town as a boy and rose to captain their under-23 side. In July 2018, he gained valuable first-team experience during a season-long loan at Aldershot Town. When Huddersfield suffered relegation from the Premier League, Booty departed without a senior appearance.

In August 2019, he signed for Notts County, where he made 13 league starts and scored twice during the 2019-20 campaign. Two years later, in June 2021, he moved to Maidstone United. After Maidstone dropped out of the National League, Booty joined Gateshead in July 2023.

His progress continued when Barrow secured his services on a three-year contract in July for an undisclosed fee, bringing him into League Two. Just four months later, Booty has now returned to the National League on loan with Boreham Wood until January 21st to gain further regular football.

On the international stage, Booty earned his first England C call-up in March 2023 for a fixture against Wales C.

At 27, Regan Booty remains a reliable presence in midfield and a player clubs continue to trust at every step of his journey.
