Swansea City supporters have reacted gracefully to the departure of head coach Alan Sheehan, which was announced this afternoon.
The 39-year-old was appointed Swans boss in February following the sacking of Luke Williams. It was his second stint in charge of the club having initially taken over on a caretaker basis in 2023.
Sheehan sparked a revival upon entering the dugout last season, losing just 3 times in 13 outings to eventually secure an 11th-placed finish. However, he found his second term much more difficult, picking up just 1 win from his last 7.
Swansea began this month with a 1-1 draw at Charlton Athletic before losing 2-1 against Preston North End at Deepdale. The final straw came on Saturday when the Welsh-based outfit suffered a 4-1 hammering at the hands of Ipswich Town.
Swansea Bite Bullet Ahead Of International Break
With the final international break of 2025 now upon us, Swansea have taken the opportunity to make a managerial change. Languishing in 18th, a statement released this afternoon confirming the news:
“Swansea City can confirm the club has parted ways with head coach Alan Sheehan.
“The 39-year-old was appointed as full-time head coach in April following two highly-impressive stints in interim charge of the Swans.
“Alan initially took over in December 2023, overseeing seven games with a win percentage of 42.86 per cent.
“His second spell in charge saw him record a win percentage of 58.3 per cent from 13 games, including a run of five wins in a row.
“However, in the wake of a disappointing run, it is felt results and performances do not meet the standards expected at this stage of the season, and we have had to take this difficult decision.
“The process to appoint a new head coach is already under way. We will update supporters on this process once it has been concluded.”
Swansea Fans Thankful But Back Decision
The heavy defeat at the weekend was met with a chorus of discontent amongst the supporters. It was evident that they heavily backed a change of guard and Sheehan was met with loud boos upon applauding those still in the stadium at the full time whistle.
Still, the work he did upon replacing Williams earlier this year means he will leave the club with the thanks of the fans. Several comments under Swansea’s announcement backed the decision, with many thanking the former Notts County and Luton Town defender for his work.
I’m gutted. Thank you for your service and everything you did for our club Alan, especially the back end of last year. Just didn’t work out, you tried your best! We understand. Good luck in your future career Sheez!

Genuinely sad to see him go, although it is the correct decision.
One of the best football people we’ve had at the club in a long time. No ego, no bullshit ‘philosophy’ to blindly follow, no sense of being bigger than the club, no twerking for bigger jobs. Best of luck to him.— J (@Jowendowntheway) November 11, 2025
Appreciate what’s he did the back end of last season and truly supported him this season but it just wasn’t working out and he unfortunately had to go 💔 hope Sheehan gets a chance somewhere else and does well 🦢

Grateful for what he did at the end of last season, but unfortunately football is a results based game and time was up. All the best for the future gaffer, once a Jack always a Jack!

The very best of luck to Alan Sheehan, to whom we should be very grateful to for what he did last season. Once a Jack… 🦢

Right decision (maybe a couple weeks late)
Thank you Sheezdog, you did help us in a time where we didn’t know where we would be a few seasons later. So wished it worked out, and genuinely think if you change a couple things you’ll be a good manager in the future.— MR. Vipi (MMSwans) 🦢🏴 (@FirstRealMadman) November 11, 2025
It did not work out but hats of to Alan Sheehan. He steadied the ship when we needed him. Never forget that. This experience will serve him well in future jobs
Thank you Alan Sheehan

Early favourites for the job include ex-Middlesbrough boss Michael Carrick, Brendan Rodgers, Gary O’Neil and Kim Hellberg.
