Middlesbrough head coach Rob Edwards has admitted he can understand reports linking him with a move to Wolverhampton Wanderers but remains ‘fully focused’ on his job at the Riverside Stadium.
The 42-year-old returned to the dugout in the summer after departing Luton Town in January. He was widely lauded for his time at Kenilworth Road, where he famously guided the Hatters into the Premier League via the Championship play-offs in 2023.
Luton’s stint in the top tier lasted just 1 season but they received huge praise for their entertaining and battling performances. However, they struggled with their return to the Championship, and Edwards was reluctantly dismissed with the club battling against a second successive relegation.

Edwards Oversees Middlesbrough Rejuvenation
After missing out on a place in the play-offs in back-to-back seasons, Middlesbrough made the brave decision to part company with long-term boss Michael Carrick. Edwards was almost immediately linked to the position and was eventually announced at the end of June.
It’s a move which has proven to the right one. Boro have enjoyed a strong opening couple of months to the season and currently sit second in the table, 3 points behind leaders Coventry City.
The Teesiders did miss a glorious opportunity to move level on points with Frank Lampard’s team at the weekend though. With the Sky Blues having tasted defeat for the first time this season against Wrexham on Friday, Boro followed suit the following day with a 3-0 loss at Watford.
Wolves Links Emerge
A 3-0 defeat for Wolverhampton Wanderers against Fulham on Saturday proved to be the final straw for manager Vitor Pereira. The 57-year-old was sacked on Sunday, alongside his backroom staff.

Middlesbrough are looking to recover from Saturday’s loss tomorrow night when they take on Leicester City at the King Power Stadium. Speaking ahead of the clash, Edwards was asked about the links:
“I can understand it with my links to the club but my full focus is on this job here, which is a brilliant job, and trying to turn things around for a really big game against Leicester.
“It’s hard for me to comment on speculation and anything other than Middlesbrough.
“We’ve done a decent job so far and all I care about is trying to win tomorrow.”
The West Midlands-based side have also been linked with ex-Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers, whilst news emerged earlier today that they have entered into talks with former boss Gary O’Neil. The 42-year-old ended his previous spell at Molineux in December 2024 with the club in the Premier League relegation zone.
