Bolton Wanderers welcome Huddersfield Town to the Toughsheet Community Stadium in the FA Cup first round on Saturday.
Our Three Predictions For Bolton Wanderers vs Huddersfield Town
- First Prediction: Bolton Wanderers To Win – 8/11
- Second Prediction: Both Teams To Score – 4/6
- Third Prediction: Over 2.5 Goals – 8/11
First Prediction For Bolton Wanderers vs Huddersfield Town – Bolton Wanderers To Win – 8/11
It’s only been 2 weeks since these teams met at the Accu Stadium. Bolton delivered a hammer blow to Lee Grant and his Huddersfield team with 2 added time goals to pick up a 2-1 win.
The Trotters followed that with an excellent 1-0 victory over then-league leaders Cardiff City and look ready to launch an assault on promotion from League One. Manager Steven Schumacher is likely to use this as an opportunity to give some of his fringe players some minutes, but they will still be confident of progression to the second round.
Although the Terriers sit ninth in the table, they are 6 points behind AFC Wimbledon in the final play-off spot. This has put Grant under enormous pressure and he knows that he needs a win here to instil a bit a little piece of optimism into the supporters.
Still, confidence is low and even a heavily rotated Bolton will be eager to pick up a second victory over their league rivals this month.
Second Prediction For Bolton Wanderers vs Huddersfield Town – Both Teams To Score – 4/6
We can again look back at the previous clash earlier this month between the pair to strengthen this prediction. Huddersfield were fantastic in the first half and thoroughly deserved their half time lead. However, they were unrecognisable in the second period, which ultimately led to their downfall.
Bolton kept a clean sheet against Cardiff last weekend, but that is the first time they have done so since the beginning of September. Eight of their 14 League One outings have seen both teams score, whilst they also shipped 3 to Sheffield Wednesday in the Carabao Cup in August.
Third Prediction For Bolton Wanderers vs Huddersfield Town – Over 2.5 Goals – 8/11
Bolton do rank fairly low in this market in League One, with just 36% of their fixtures producing 3 or more goals. However, this can be attributed to 5 1-1 draws in the space of 6 games between August and September.
More recently, 3 of their last 4 have been higher scoring affairs. Last weekend’s 1-0 win over Cardiff is the only anomaly.
In contrast, only Bradford City have been involved in more games that have hit this marker in the division. Eight of their 13 league outings have achieved this feat, accounting for 62% of their fixtures to date. This increases slightly to 67% when on their travels.

Full Preview Of The Game: Last Results And Head-To-Head:
Bolton suffered a slow start to the season, winning just 2 of their opening 8 league fixtures. However, this did include 5 1-1 draws.
The Trotters have found their stride in recent weeks though, winning 4 of their last 6. This includes the 2-1 victory at Huddersfield earlier this month whilst a 1-0 triumph over then-league leaders Cardiff City last weekend was an excellent result.
Despite that, Steven Schumacher’s side do still have a poor performance in them. This was evident during a 3-0 beating at struggling Burton Albion on October 11th.
Shifting attention to cup competitions, Bolton exited the Carabao Cup at the first stage when they lost on penalties following a 3-3 draw with Sheffield Wednesday. The EFL Trophy has been kinder though, with victories against Rotherham United and Manchester City under-21s putting them on the brink of the knockout phase.
Huddersfield are a team in disarray at the moment and it appears as if manager Lee Grant is on the brink, despite only taking over in the summer. The Terriers have lost 4 games in succession in all competitions, with the pressure reaching almost boiling point last weekend.
The Yorkshire-based side travelled to Wycombe Wanderers, only to find themselves on the wrong end of a 3-0 beating. Prior to that was the defeat against Bolton, which followed a 2-1 reverse at home to current leaders Stockport County and an underwhelming 1-0 loss at League Two outfit Harrogate Town in the EFL Trophy.
Bolton have won the last 3 meetings between the pair, although Huddersfield did pick up an excellent 4-0 win at the Toughsheet Community Stadium in September 2024. The two were drawn against each other in the FA Cup third round in the 2018, which the Terriers won 2-1.
Overall, it is the Trotters who have the far superior record in this fixture. They have won 49 of the previous 107 clashes, with Huddersfield winning 38. The two teams have played out 20 draws, the last of which came in 2012.
