Preston North End vs Birmingham City: Prediction, Lineups, Betting Tips & Odds (21/10)

Preston North End play host to Chris Davies’ struggling Birmingham City side at Deepdale on Tuesday in front of the Sky Sports + cameras in the Championship.

Our Three Predictions for Preston North End vs Birmingham City

  • First Prediction: Preston North End to win – 19/10
  • Second Prediction: Over 1.5 goals to be scored – 4/9
  • Third Prediction: Both teams to score – 19/20

First Prediction for Preston North End vs Birmingham City – Preston North End to win – 19/10

Based on both sides’ recent form, this will be a game between two completely different teams, who are already at opposite ends of the table in the second tier. Whilst the hosts have won two, drawn two and only lost once in their last five games, the Blues have struggled more than expected on their return to the Championship after their record-breaking season away in League One. Chris Davies’ side are yet to get going, and currently find themselves sat in the bottom half of the table in 17th, having won just three of their 10 games this season.

Whilst the away side have failed to win in any of their last four games, they also don’t have a great record when it comes to winning games on the road, winning just one of their five away games, picking up four points, which is the joint fourth worst record in the league. In contrast, Preston are yet to lose a game at home, and have the fourth-best home form in the division, winning three and drawing two games at Deepdale this season.

Whilst Birmingham are still no easy side to beat, based of both recent form and stats it’s clear to see why Preston are being backed to win this clash on home turf tomorrow.

Second Prediction for Preston North End vs Birmingham City – Over 1.5 goals to be scored – 4/9

Neither side have struggled to put the ball in the back of the net this season, Preston scoring 12 times in 10 games, whilst their opponents have scored 10 goals in 10 games. But, you could argue one side has struggled with keeping them out at the other end, the Blues conceding 14 goals, which isn’t the worst record, but also isn’t the best, especially for their stadard. In contrast, PNE have only conceded nine goals, which is an average of less than one, 0.90, goals per game. However, with both sides having goal averages above one in terms of finding the back of the net, it wouldn’t be suprising to see over 1.5 goals scored in tomorrow’s game.

Third Prediction for Preston North End vs Birmingham City – Both teams to score – 19/20

In addition to the previous point, although Birmingham have failed to win their last three games, they’ve still managed to score in all three, including scoring two with 10 men last weekend against Hull City.

One thing the hosts will look to exploit is Birmingham’s record when it comes to their defensive numbers on the road, conceding eight in five away games, and with Preston only failing to score in one of their last five games, there is certainly opportunity for Paul Heckingbottom’s side to expolit this.

With both sides confident in front of goal, mixed with the fact there are defensive frailties that either side can utilize, it looks likely that both sides will score in this encounter.

Full Preview of the Game – Last Results and Head-To-Head

As mentioned above, neither side come into this clash in great form, Preston winning two, drawing two and losing one of their last five games, whilst their opponents have only won once, drawn twice and lost twice despite being backed to do well in the Championship this season.

Whilst it is still early days in terms of the 2025/26 Championship season, Heckingbottom’s side have done better than most would’ve predicted, his side currently sat eighth, whilst the team backed to do well, Birmingham, sit 17th on their return to the second tier.

Since 2015, these sides have faced each other 18 times, with all 18 ties coming in the Championship. Whilst six of these games have ended in draws, the Lilywhites have won eight games, whilst the Blues have only won four. However, Davies’ side did pick up one of those four wins on their last encounter with Preston, winning 1-0 at St. Andrews thanks to a second-half strike from Jay Stansfield back in April 2024.
