Lincoln City head coach Michael Skubala hailed his side as they put in a dominant performance to pick up a 1-0 victory over League One leaders Stevenage.
The Imps had a fortnight to mull over their disappointing 1-0 defeat against Exeter City last time out after their clash against Bradford City last weekend was postponed due to international call-ups. That reverse against the Grecians ended an 8-game unbeaten run and saw them slip to sixth in the table.
A similar result here would have seen them fall 7 points behind Stevenage, who have a game in hand. However, a return to winning ways would see them remain in contention with the automatic promotion places.
Lincoln Finally Make Dominance Count
Lincoln looked the much stronger in the early exchanges and looked the most likely to break the deadlock. Rob Street perhaps had the best opportunity of the first half when he dragged a shot wide of the post when one-on-one with goalkeeper Filip Marschall.
The second half restarted with the score goalless but the home side continued to look the most likely. Opportunities came and went but Street eventually breached a resilient Stevenage when he half-volleyed a strike into the top corner.

Alex Revell’s side did rally towards the end but Lincoln held on to temporarily move up to second in the table.
Skubala Hails ‘Deserved’ Win
Lincoln finished the game with 18 shots on goal, dwarfing Stevenage’s five. Speaking after the game, Skubala lauded his side, claiming they didn’t give the league leaders ‘a sniff’.
“It was a big win, we wanted to put things right after the Exeter game. I thought we played very well against Exeter, but didn’t get the result, so I’m pleased we got what we deserved against Stevenage.
“We knew the importance of the game and the result we wanted, so it was brilliant to get it.
“In the first half we created loads of opportunities, the plan was to get in-behind them and we did that.
“I feel like we had the majority of the chances and we got our reward in the end. You can tell why they are top of the league, they are solid and can hurt you in attack.
“I really liked our defensive structure, we didn’t really give them a sniff and kept going right until the end.”
Lincoln now face 3 tough away games in succession with visits to Leyton Orient, Bradford City and Rotherham United.

Writer’s View
This is a result which shows Lincoln are real promotion contenders this season. They were largely excellent against Exeter and Michael Skubala will still have no idea how they lost that game.
At times today, it looked as if a repeat could be on the cards. The Imps created plenty but couldn’t but the ball in the back of the net and fans were left wondering if it was going to be another one of them afternoons. However, Street made amends for his first half miss with an excellent strike.
If Lincoln can pick up some big results in their next three games on the road, it’s very likely that they could become involved in the conversation for a top two finish.
