Plymouth Argyle vs AFC Wimbledon: Prediction, Lineups, Betting Tips & Odds (18/10)

AFC Wimbledon make the trip South to take on league rivals Plymouth Argyle at Home Park on Saturday in Sky Bet League One.

Our Three Predictions for Plymouth Argyle vs AFC Wimbledon

  • First Prediction: Match to end in a draw – 9/4
  • Second Prediction: Over 1.5 goals to be scored – 1/3
  • Third Prediction: Both teams to score – 5/6

First Prediction for Plymouth Argyle vs AFC Wimbledon – Match to end in a draw – 9/4

Based on both sides’ recent form, this is going to be a game between two sides who will be full of confidence, as a result of their good form. Whilst Plymouth have only lost once and won three of their last five, their opponents, AFC Wimbledon, have an even better record, winning four and drawing once in their last five. Johnnie Jackson’s side haven’t lost a game in any competition in over a month, despite being backed to struggle in League One by the majority.

On top of this, the Wombles have one of the best records on the road in the third division this season, winning three and losing three in their six away games so far. Their hosts, on the other hand, have one of the worst home records, interestingly, this campaign. Out of six games, they’ve only won two at Home Park, but in all competitions, they are unbeaten at home in nearly a month, winning against Tottenham Hotspur Under-21s and then drawing against Wigan Athletic.

With both sides in such good form, it wouldn’t be surprising to see them cancel each other out and play out a draw on Saturday afternoon.

Second Prediction for Plymouth Argyle vs AFC Wimbledon – Over 1.5 goals to be scored – 1/3

One thing neither side have struggled to do this season is put the ball in the back of the net. Whilst Tom Cleverley’s side have scored 16 goals in 11 games, AFC Wimbledon have scored 17 in 12 games. Considering Argyle’s league position, their goal return is impressive, but one of the reasons they aren’t up there in terms of their league positioning is because of their poor defensive record. They currently possess the third-worst record in terms of conceding goals, with 19 conceded in 11 games, which is on average a record of 1.73 goals per game.

Opponents, AFC Wimbledon, will know and try and exploit this, but they will also have to focus on the fact that nine of the 13 goals they have conceded have come on the road. With both sides proving they can score goals, and neither side having a great defensive record, whether that be in general or on the road, there is potential for a lot of goals in this clash.

Third Prediction for Plymouth Argyle vs AFC Wimbledon – Both teams to score – 5/6

In addition to the previous point, on average, both sides score more than one goal per game. The hosts’ record currently sits at 1.42 goals per game, whilst the visitors’ record sits at 1.45 goals scored per game. In their last five, the Dons have scored 10 goals, whilst Plymouth have scored 14, six of which came in one game in the EFL Trophy.

Again, there will be goals in this clash, and as a result, you expect both sides to score.

Full Preview of the Game – Last Results and Head-To-Head

As mentioned above, both sides enter this game in good form. The hosts have won three and lost only one of their last five games in all competitions, while the away side has won four games and hasn’t lost in their last five. Whilst AFC Wimbledon are sat in the play-off spots, Argyle have had a slow start to the season despite their recent form, and find themselves 18th.

It is still early days in the third division in terms of the season, but it’s rather humorous to see the side backed for promotion, Plymouth, struggle down in 18th and the side that the majority backed to struggle this season, AFC Wimbledon, currently occupying a top six spot. However, due to international callups, other teams around them have games in hand.

Since 2011, these sides have met each other 22 times in all competitions, including League Two, League One, the EFL Trophy and the play-offs. The hosts have won nine of these 22 games, with the Wombles winning seven times. The other six games have ended level at full time. The last time these sides met was in Round three of the EFL Trophy, Plymouth knocking their opponents out on penalties after a thrilling 3-3 draw.
