Bolton Wanderers Face Defining Weeks After Key Players Sidelined Through Injury

Bolton Wanderers have suffered a major blow ahead of their potentially crucial visit to Huddersfield Town after it was confirmed that Ethan Erhahon and Thierry Gale are set for a spell on the sidelines.

It’s been another inconsistent start to the season for the Trotters. After missing out on a place in the play-offs last term, the minimum expectation this time around is a top 6 finish.

Currently sitting ninth in the table, they travel to fellow promotion rivals Huddersfield tomorrow hoping to end a poor run of away form. Steven Schumacher’s side are yet to win on the road this season and have lost their last 2, which came against Northampton Town and Burton Albion.

Schumacher Confirms Double Injury Blow

Bolton’s hammering at struggling Burton last weekend meant they were unable to capitalise on the host of teams above them that didn’t play due to the international break. They can put that right in West Yorkshire, but will have to do so without two of their major summer signings.

Although Schumacher is able to call upon the services of Eoin Toal and Josh Sheehan after their return from international duty, he will be without midfielder Ethan Erhahon and Thierry Gale. Speaking ahead of the clash, the former Plymouth Argyle boss said:

“Toaly and Josh are back. Obviously, they didn’t feature on Monday night for their respective countries so they’re fresh.

“They got back to training on Tuesday, so they’ve been good the last two days. It’s good to have them back.

“Ethan is probably going to be four weeks. A bit of a thigh strain, not a mad serious one. It’s something that he’s done before so he knows how to manage it. As I said, it’s a four-week one so it’s not going to be the end of the world.

“The same with Thierry Gale, he had a little bit of ligament damage. He’s been to see the specialist and, again, we think we’ll get him back in the middle of November which is positive because with those types of injuries it could be a lot worse.”

Although Bolton do have a big enough squad to cope with Erhahon and Gale’s respective absences, there’s little doubt that this a huge blow. Both players cost over £600,000 in the summer and they are players who are expected to play a key role in the coming months.

Steven Schumacher is still trying to figure out why his team can’t win on the road and one of the last places he would want to visit with depleted numbers is Huddersfield Town. Another defeat here would leave them 5 points behind the Terriers whilst the gap to the play-off places would likely be larger after the coming weekend’s round of fixtures.

The Trotters have a tough run of games coming up, including several teams already in the top six. This includes Cardiff City, Bradford City and current table toppers Stevenage.
