Our Three Predictions for Salford City vs Oldham Athletic
- First Prediction: Match to end in a draw – 5/2
- Second Prediction: Over 1.5 goals to be scored – 2/7
- Third Prediction: Both teams to score – 8/11
First Prediction for Salford City vs Oldham Athletic – Match to end in a draw – 5/2
A few weeks ago, this match would’ve been between two of the most in-form teams in the league; however, in the last few weeks, neither side have been able to continue that same form. The hosts have lost all three of their last three games in the league, whilst their opponents, Oldham, haven’t won in their last three games, drawing twice and losing once. On top of this, the Ammies have a good record when it comes to playing on home turf, picking up 10 out of a possible 18 points from six games, whilst the visitors have a good record on the road. From six games, they’ve picked up nine points, which, although is one less than Salford’s home record, is the eighth best in the division. Whilst the hosts have only drawn once this season, the Latics have drawn six games, which is more than both what they’ve won and what they have lost. This clash is going to be a cagey affair between two teams who are potentially low on confidence but need to pick up three points desperately.

Second Prediction for Salford City vs Oldham Athletic – Over 1.5 goals to be scored – 2/7
The hosts have certainly hosted some entertaining games at home this season, and have both scored 10 goals and conceded 10 goals at the Peninsula Stadium in the league in just six games. Although their opponents don’t have the same record on their travels, they have scored more goals away from home than at home. Whilst Salford have a much better record in front of goal, they have a worse record when it comes to keeping goals out, and on average per game, concede 1.42 goals. Micky Mellon’s side are much more defensively sound in front of their own goal, and their average is almost half of what their opponents currently sit at, with 0.75. Saying this, recently, in their last five games in all competitions, Oldham have conceded seven goals, including three goals each in two consecutive fixtures before playing Barrow last weekend. They’ve also scored seven goals, whilst hosts Salford have conceded 10 and scored seven also in their last five games in all competitions. With Salford so impressive in front of goal, alongside their below-average defensive record, mixed with the fact that Oldham’s record in front of goal is slowly getting better, and their defensive record seems to be getting worse, it’s clear to see why more than 1.5 goals are predicted to be scored in this game.
Third Prediction for Salford City vs Oldham Athletic – Both teams to score – 8/11
Adding to my previous point, Karl Robinson’s side doesn’t have the greatest record when it comes to defending, and have conceded 17 goals in 12 games, which is an average of 1.42 goals per game. This is certainly an area in which Oldham will be looking to exploit, especially as their average per game is less than one goal per game. However, six of the 10 goals they have scored this season have come on the road, whilst the Ammies have conceded 10 of their 17 goals at the Peninsula Stadium. Three of the Latics’ six goals on the road came recently, enjoying freedom against struggling Cheltenham Town, who are another team that have struggled defensively this season. Although at times, Oldham haven’t had any luck in front of goal, they’ll know their opponents’ weaknesses and will be looking to exploit these to both try and pick up more points and try and improve their current record in front of goal.

Full Preview of the Game – Last Results and Head-To-Head
As mentioned above, both of these sides come into this fixture on mixed form, both sides winning two of their last five league games, but then not winning in their last three fixtures. Whilst the hosts sit in ninth, their opponents are sat 15th, but the six club gap is only separated by four points.
Despite it still being relatively early days in the season, both sides could well and truly push for a promotion spot, the Ammies one point off seventh-placed Barnet, whilst the Latics are only five points off fellow newly promoted side last season, the Bees. However, both sides need to pick up form if they are to push on, meaning that picking up three points in this encounter could prove to be crucial.
Since 2019, these sides have met a total of seven times, with six of these seven ties coming in League Two. Out of these seven encounters, Salford have won four of them, Oldham winning just two. The other clash ended level at full-time. Last time these sides met, Salford picked up all three points at Boundary Park in a 2-1 away win back in 2022. Goals from strikers Matt Smith and Brendan Thomas-Asante ruled out a penalty from Davis Keillor-Dunn.
