Returning from the international break, Derby County travel to the Kassam Stadium to face Oxford United in a relegation six-pointer.
Our Three Predictions For Oxford United vs Derby County:
- First Prediction For Oxford United vs Derby County: Match Result – Draw – 19/10
- Second Prediction For Oxford United vs Derby County: Over 1.5 Goals – 40/85
- Third Prediction For Oxford United vs Derby County: Both Teams To Score – Yes – 1/1
First Prediction For Oxford United vs Derby County: Match Result – Draw – 19/10
When it comes to the Championship, no side are more likely to draw games than Derby County. The Rams’ tally of 5 stalemates from 9 games is equal to Southampton’s record, and their last 3 games have all ended level. But, while John Eustace’s side have won only once this season, they have just one defeat in their past 7 league matches.
Oxford are also draw specialists, with half their last 6 games ended in a share of the points. At home, the U’s are yet to pick up a victory, with 2 losses in 4 games. And Gary Rowett, facing his former club, will be keen to end their run of 3 games without a win.
But don’t expect that sequence to end this weekend, as this clash between two of the division’s bottom five has a draw written all over it.
Second Prediction For Oxford United vs Derby County: Over 1.5 Goals – 40/85
These two sides have fairly similar records in terms of goals for and against this season. Oxford have shipped 6 league goals this season in 4 home matches. That total was as many as Brighton & Hove Albion scored at the Kassam Stadium in 90 minutes during their League Cup tie in August.
Derby have also conceded the same amount on the road in as many games. But, after conceding 5 times in their first two away fixtures, Eustace’s side have shut up shop in their last two, keeping a clean sheet away at West Bromwich Albion. Nevertheless, expect goals to be on offer at both ends this Saturday lunchtime.
Third Prediction For Oxford United vs Derby County: Both Teams To Score – Yes – 1/1
Oxford have seen scorelines of either 2-2 or 0-1 from their four home games thus far this season. That has left the U’s averaging a goal a game at home, though their total of 6 on the road is marginally better.
Meanwhile, the Rams’ tally of 11 has been split fairly evenly home and away, managing to score in every away encounter with 5 goals scored in 4 games. With that in mind, expect both sides to be on the scoresheet on Saturday afternoon.

Full Preview Of The Game: Last Results And Head-To-Head:
Oxford have fared better against the top sides in the Championship this season, at least on home soil. While holding 2 of the top 3, Coventry City and Leicester City, to draws, they haven’t replicated that against sides at the other end of the table. Gifting bottom side Sheffield United their only win of the season, Portsmouth also left Oxfordshire with all three points on the opening day of the season.
Gary Rowett’s side were at least able to defeat League Two Colchester United on their own patch in the Carabao Cup, before being blown away by Brighton. The U’s only 3-point haul of the campaign came in a shock victory at Ashton Gate last month, beating Bristol City 3-1.
While in October thus far, they held Queens Park Rangers to a point at Loftus Road, before returning from Watford pointless thanks to a late first-half brace from Jeremy Ngakia. A trip to North Wales is up next Wednesday for Oxford, before their travels take them to Sheffield Wednesday on the final weekend of this month.
For the third game in a row, 2 weeks ago, Derby County drew a game 1-1. That was the second time in 4 days, after a stalemate against Charlton Athletic had preceded their point against Southampton. John Eustace’s outfit had also returned from North Wales with a point against Wrexham thanks to Ben Brereton Diaz’s fine effort.
Better things had been expected from the Rams this term, after battling against relegation until the final day last season. But in the first full season under Eustace, that hasn’t yet materialised. In a weird quirk of fate, Derby’s last three victories have all come away at West Bromwich Albion, knocking the Baggies out of the League Cup after defeating them at the end of last season.
And their solitary victory this campaign came at the Hawthorns last month, courtesy of Andreas Weimann’s late winner. Looking ahead, back-to-back home games against Norwich City and Queens Park Rangers conclude Derby’s business this month.
Meetings have been rare between these sides, with just 16 in the past 57 years. Derby have the edge with 7 wins to 5, though both games last season ended all square.
