Chesterfield have announced the return of Danny Webb as assistant manager, just weeks after his departure to Yeovil Town.
The 40-year-old briefly left the Spireites to take up a managerial role in Somerset, but has now resumed his post under manager Paul Cook.
Swift Return to Derbyshire
Webb originally departed Chesterfield earlier this month after being offered the opportunity to step into senior management with Yeovil. However, his time at Huish Park lasted just ten days before he stepped down for personal reasons. The Glovers confirmed his resignation, leaving Webb free to return to the Technique Stadium where he has been a trusted member of Cook’s backroom team.
Given the short turnaround, Chesterfield moved quickly to reinstate Webb, with the assistant grateful to resume his duties. He has been a familiar face at the club since arriving in January 2022, building a strong rapport with both the squad and the fanbase during a period that has seen the Spireites climb back into the Football League.

Club Statement on Webb’s Return
Chesterfield chairman Ashley Kirk expressed his delight at welcoming Webb back, highlighting the positive impact he has made during his time at the club.
“We are delighted to welcome Danny back to Chesterfield. He has always been a hugely valued member of staff and we maintained an excellent working relationship throughout his time here. Danny is well respected not just internally but also by our supporters, and we know how popular his return will be.
“On behalf of the club, I’d like to extend my empathy and appreciation to Yeovil Town’s owners and board, who have handled this difficult situation with the utmost professionalism and understanding.
“Most importantly, we are pleased to have Danny back with us and we look forward to continuing the good work together.”
His return provides further continuity as Chesterfield look to build on their momentum and earn League One promotion under Cook. With Webb back in place, the Spireites will hope to maintain the momentum that carried them to within a whisker of the play-offs last season.
Writer’s View
For Chesterfield supporters, the news comes as a welcome boost. Webb has been a key figure in Cook’s staff and his brief departure left a noticeable gap. While his time at Yeovil was short-lived, the understanding shown by both clubs reflects the professionalism of all involved.
His return restores stability to a management team that has already delivered success, and with League Two presenting new challenges, the Spireites will benefit from his experience and familiarity with the squad.
