Birmingham City Receive Huge Boost Ahead Of Wrexham Clash

Birmingham City have received a major boost ahead of their trip to Wrexham tomorrow night following the news that star striker Jay Stansfield has been declared fit.

The £15 million attacker has enjoyed a decent start to the season and hit his third Championship goal of the campaign to hand his side an early lead against Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday night. The Owls responded through Jamal Lowe and George Brown, the latter of which came three minutes after Stansfield succumbed to a foot injury.

Damarai Gray’s 99th minute equaliser rescued a point for Chris Davies’ side, which also saw them avoid a fourth defeat in five league outings. However, there were fears in the aftermath of the game that their record signing may be forced to miss the upcoming clash with the Red Dragons.

Davies Confirms Stansfield Availability

Last season saw Birmingham and Wrexham ignite a rivalry for the League One title. The West Midlands-based outfit eventually won the third tier at a canter, but their two clashes drew worldwide attention due to their respective celebrity owners.

The pair haven’t enjoyed the best starts to life in the Championship, but their latest clash is once again set to be broadcast to a large audience. Speaking ahead of the game, Davies was asked if Stansfield would be available to feature:

“Yes.

“He’s got strapping on it. A lot of them wear strapping on it, ones that have had previous ankle injuries. From my understanding he’s fine.

“He occasionally gets a kick on that one or the other one, but on this particular occasion I think he felt it would be better to come off and the physios checked him over.

“You can see from the way he scored, he’s still so dangerous and plays with so much energy. The ankle is fine from what I’ve heard.”

Writer’s View

Despite last season’s record-breaking League One triumph, Birmingham boss Chris Davies has found himself under pressure from some sections of the fanbase. One win in five isn’t the kind of form that will keep him in a job, but it is premature to be talking about a St Andrew’s managerial change. However, defeat against Wrexham would hurt and those groans that are starting to creep in will only get louder. Having talisman Jay Stansfield available to play is a huge boost though and the Blues will be confident that that will give them the edge.
