Full Preview Of The Game: Last Results And Head-To-Head:

Bristol City are currently fourth in the early Championship table having won three of their opening games and putting 12 points on the board.

Gerhard Struber’s side have won two and drawn two of their last five league matches with that run beginning with a 1-1 draw away at Derby County. Scott Twine gave City the lead but they were denied three points thanks to an 85th minute equaliser from The Rams.

Emil Riis Jakobsen netted twice in The Robins next match at home to Hull City with Anis Mehmeti and Max Bird strikes completing the scoring as The Tigers were beaten 4-2 at Ashton Gate before Struber’s side won impressively on the road at Sheffield Wednesday thanks to an own goal, another Jakobsen goal and a strike from Anis Mehmeti sending City on the way to a 3-0 win at Hillsborough.

A disappointing home defeat to Oxford United followed, with the visitors running out 3-1 winners with Anis Mehmeti’s strike proving nothing more than a consolation. Last time out, it was a clash of the playoff chasers at Deepdale as Bristol City travelled to Preston North End. Neither side were able to break the deadlock and the game finished 0-0.

The Robins have scored 13 goals so far this season with top scorer Anis Mehmeti scoring four of those with Scott Twine and Emil Riis Jakobsen netting three apiece. Mehmeti and Twine have added two assists and they sit just behind Ross McCrorie who has provided three goals. Struber’s side have the second best clean sheet record in the league with three shutouts.

Kieran McKenna’s Ipswich Town have have not started their return to the Championship in the way they would have hoped as it took the Tractor Boys until their fifth league fixture to register a victory. McKenna’s side opened the season with a controversial draw at Birmingham City thanks to a 95th minute George Hirst penalty.

Town’s last five matches have seen them win two and draw to to propel them towards the top six with a game in hand. That run started with a 1-1 draw at home to Southampton, a point that was gained thanks to a Taylor Harwood-Bellis own goal.

Defeat to Preston North End followed before another dramatic point saving late penalty at home to Derby County. Jacob Greaves fired McKenna’s men into the lead before Carlton Morris and Rhian Brewster turned the game on its head. After an injury delay, there were 17 minutes of added time and it was in the 16th minute of that added time that Jack Clarke scored a penalty to rescue a point for his side.

Jaden Philogene-Bidace was in electric form as the Tractor Boys finally got their first league win of the campaign with a resounding 5-0 home win against Sheffield United. George Hirst and Jack Clarke rounded off the scoring in a match that proved the final straw for the Sheffield United board with manager Ruben Selles.

Last time out. Portsmouth were beaten 2-1 at Portman Road thanks to more goals from Philogene-Bidace and Hirst, moving McKenna’s side to within three points of the playoffs.

Ipswich have scored 11 goals so far this season with Jaden Philogene-Bidace having four to his name, just ahead of George Hirst on three. The Tractor Boys have only kept one clean sheet so far this season, conceding an average of one goal per game.

The last 16 meetings between these sides have produced six wins for Bristol City and seven for Ipswich Town. McKenna’s Ipswich completed the double over their opponents in the 2023-24 season on their way to promotion to the Premier League. Nathan Broadhead won the encounter at Ashton Gate before a late Leif Davis strike edged a five goal thriller at Portman Road.

The last time Bristol City have tasted victory was back in 2018 thanks to a 3-2 in away from home thanks to an own goal and strikes from Jamie Paterson and Famara Diedhiou cancelling out a brace from Freddie Sears in a season that saw Ipswich Town finished bottom of the Championship with just 31 points from 46 games.
