- Third Prediction: Over 8.5 Corners – 29/50
First Prediction For Wycombe Wanderers vs Northampton Town – Match Result – Draw – 23/10
Wycombe’s capitulation last season was well documented. They looked to be the major challengers to Birmingham City’s title hopes for the majority of the season but the wheels well and truly fell off after Matt Bloomfield opted to depart for pastures new at Luton Town. Mike Dodds was drafted in but he was unable to keep up the momentum he inherited and eventually finished fifth before losing in the play-off semi final to Charlton Athletic. This season started even worse and after remaining winless in their first six games, they Chairboys found themselves in the bottom four. A victory over Mansfield Town offered a slight reprieve but defeat against basement side Peterborough United last weekend proved to be the final straw. Dodds was dismissed on Thursday and was almost instantly replaced by former Huddersfield Town and Barnsley boss Michael Duff.
A complete overhaul of playing staff over the summer meant that Northampton took time to gel in the opening stages of the campaign. As a result, they picked up just one point from their first four outing, but by they time they narrowly lost to Lincoln City in mid-August, it was clear that things were starting to click. This came to fruition the following week when the Cobblers recorded a 2-0 victory over Exeter City. Kevin Nolan’s side have followed that with another six points to make it three wins in succession. However, Wycombe will be full of optimism following their change of guard. Duff will only have taken charge of one training session prior to this game, meaning a new manager bounce may have to wait a week. A share of the spoils could be on the cards though.
Second Prediction For Wycombe Wanderers vs Northampton Town – Under 2.5 Goals – 17/25
50% of Wycombe’s fixtures this season have produced three or more goals, including their 2-1 defeat against Peterborough last weekend. However, Duff will have his sights on settling the ship and is likely to try and shore up the defence. The Chairboys have just one clean sheet to their name thus far and this has to be the priority. They may be averaging a goal a game at the moment, but it is clear they are struggling to adapt to the exit of talisman Richard Kone in the summer, who joined Championship outfit Queens Park Rangers.
Despite sitting 15th, Northampton have one of the best defences in League One. They’ve conceded just six times, with only Cardiff City and Stevenage having shipped less goals. However, there’s little doubt that they are also goal shy, with Kevin Nolan’s side having found the net only five times. Only Burton Albion match that record. The only game in which the Cobblers have been involved in that has gone over the 2.5 goal mark is their opening day defeat against Wigan Athletic, which finished 3-1.
Third Prediction For Wycombe Wanderers vs Northampton Town – Over 8.5 Corners – 29/50
Bit of a left field tip for our third prediction but the stats indicate that this is likely. In their eight games this season, Wycombe games are averaging 10.13 corners per game. The Chairboys are almost equal in the for and against here, averaging 5.13 corners taken and 5 corners conceded per outing.
Northampton rank slightly lower on nine per game, but there were five corners apiece in last weekend’s 1-0 win over Blackpool. There was a total of 12 during the previous week’s victory over Leyton Orient. Overall, the Cobblers are averaging 4.71 corners for per game and 4.29 against.

Full Preview of the Game: Last Results and Head-To-Head
Wycombe have started the season in dreadful fashion, winning just one of their opening eight games. They began with successive 2-1 defeats against Bradford City and Stockport County before picking up their first point with a 1-1 draw at Doncaster Rovers. The Chairboys soon returned to losing ways though, going down 1-0 against Exeter City at Adams Park. A 2-2 draw with Reading followed but a 1-0 reverse at Stevenage left them languishing in the relegation places. Mike Dodds was thrilled to finally pick up his first victory of the campaign when they beat Mansfield Town 2-0, although a 2-1 loss at bottom club Peterborough United saw him lose his job. Michael Duff was swiftly appointed on Thursday to draft in a new era.
Northampton had an incredibly busy summer which saw only a handful of players from last season start the opening day clash against Wigan Athletic. As a result, it was no surprise to see them lose 3-1. The team continued their transition with a first point of the season with a 0-0 draw with Bradford City at Sixfields, but back-to-back defeats against Stevenage (2-0) and Lincoln City (1-0) followed. Despite that, Kevin Nolan saw enough in those performances to believe that things were starting to turn in their favour. This point has been proven in recent weeks with three successive wins against Exeter City (2-0), Leyton Orient (1-0) and Blackpool (1-0).
Wycombe have been the dominant force in this fixture in recent years. The Chairboys are unbeaten in their last nine meetings, a run stretching back to 2016. However, last season’s 0-0 draw at Adams Park halted a run of eight successive wins (including a penalty shootout victory in the League Cup in 2018). Northampton last beat Wycombe on their own patch during a League Two encounter in 2015, where they emerged with a 3-2 triumph. Overall, Wycombe have won 14 of the previous 38 clashes, with the Cobblers winning 10 and 14 ending in a draw.
