Wrexham finally recorded their first win in the Championship prior to the international break when they left The Dell with a 2-0 victory over Millwall. It would have felt a long time coming for manager Phil Parkinson, who would have been disappointed not to pick up three points sooner. They led Southampton until the 90th minute on the opening day, only to lose 2-1. A 3-2 defeat at West Bromwich Albion followed before they surrendered a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 with Sheffield Wednesday. It’s fair to say that the Hollywood backed outfit are still getting used to the vigours of second tier football.
Queens Park Rangers have picked up the same amount of points as their hosts and also recorded their first win of the season in their last outing. A 3-1 triumph over Charlton Athletic at Loftus Road was a much needed boost, especially as they were hammered 7-1 by Coventry City the week prior. Their other point came on the opening day when they drew 1-1 with Preston North End and although they have lost both of their away outings thus far, the two teams could cancel each other out.

Although they have just four points from a possible 12, scoring goals has not been an issue for Wrexham. They have found the back of the net seven times, although have conceded the same amount. The Red Dragons kept a clean sheet in their last fixture when they beat Millwall, but five of the seven goals they have shipped have been in front of their own supporters. It’s also worth noting that they have scored and conceded in both their Carabao Cup outings, recording a penalty shootout win over Hull City following a 3-3 draw, before beating Preston 3-2.
If there is one thing that looks virtually guaranteed on paper, it is that QPR will concede. Alongside Derby County, they have the division’s joint worst defence, having picked the ball out of their net on 11 occasions. However, it is worth noting that seven of those came in that emphatic defeat at Coventry. Still, the Hoops have scored in all four of their fixtures this season, as well as in their 3-2 loss against League One’s Plymouth Argyle in the League Cup first round.

Wrexham pulled off a massive coup in the summer when they convinced Kieffer Moore to swap Sheffield United for a move to North Wales. The Welsh international has taken to life at the STōK Cae Ras instantly and scored his first goals for the club by bagging a brace in the 2-2 draw against Sheffield Wednesday.
The 33-year-old followed that by coming off the bench to bag an added time winner against Preston North End in the Carabao Cup. Returning to the starting lineup for the trip to Millwall, Moore bagged his fourth of the season in all competitions. The striker also has three prior goals against QPR, including in last season’s 2-2 draw whilst at Sheffield United.

Wrexham’s meteoric rise up the football pyramid has been well documented and last season’s third successive promotion saw then return to England’s second tier for the first time since 1982. They looked to have got the campaign off to a perfect start when they led 1-0 against the recently relegated Southampton at St Mary’s all the way to the 90th minute. Queens Park Rangers brought in Julien Stephen in the summer to replace Marti Cifuentes, who had been on gardening leave since April. His first competitive outing saw him pick up a 1-1 draw against Preston North End at Loftus Road, but they tasted defeat on the road a week later when they lost 2-1 at Watford. A trip to the CBS Arena was a humiliating one, with Frank Lampard’s team impressing with a 7-1 victory in a game in which Stephen issued a public apology afterwards. The Hoops did follow that though with a first win of the campaign, beating newly promoted Charlton Athletic 3-1 prior to the international break.
This is the first meeting between the two teams since 2004, when QPR were playing in the old Division 2 (now League One). The West Londoners have won the past three clashes, with Wrexham last winning in 2001. However, they have not beaten today’s opposition in the capital since since recorded a 1-0 triumph in 1980.
