1st prediction for Sheffield Wednesday vs Bristol City: Bristol City to win or draw- 7/25

This is a fascinating match up. Sheffield Wednesday have well-documented off-field issues with their ownership, and they have really struggled on the pitch as a result. They’ve picked up only one point so far this season with only city rivals Sheffield United below them in the table. That being said, they have performed admirably with a strong team spirit despite a largely inexperienced squad. New boss Henrik Pedersen inherited a tough gig from virtual miracle worker Danny Rohl, and he will be hoping they pick up their first win soon in the fight against the drop. Despite their home advantage, it’s unlikely to be here. Bristol City have started the season very well and find themselves sixth at this early stage, as they look to bounce back from play-off disappointment last campaign. They too have a new boss in Gerhard Struber and have impressed with the high-octane football the Austrian is known for. This style is likely to work in their favour here; they will be sure to keep the intensity high against a shaky and inexperienced team, which could see mistakes made which the Robins will hope to capitalise on. Despite being the away side, they are definitely favourites here.

2nd prediction for Sheffield Wednesday vs Bristol City: Over 2.5 goals in the game – 4/5

This is likely to be an entertaining game with plenty of goals. Sheffield Wednesday are low on quality across the pitch but the one thing they are not lacking is effort and team spirit, which in itself will get them goals across the season. However, their struggles will likely see them ship plenty as we’ve seen so far. They will be playing teams who have a range of Premier League quality players while they struggle to put a squad together, and this inexperience and lack of quality is going to see them make mistakes as young players learn. This will be the case here, especially with Bristol City’s attacking, high-octane football even as the away side. Gerhard Struber will sense vulnerability and encourage his side to go for it, which as discussed previously will likely give them plenty of opportunities against Wednesday. It could however see them leak opportunities which Wednesday will look to grab with both hands and see as a chance to get a win on the board.

3rd prediction for Sheffield Wednesday vs Bristol City: Both teams to score – 17/25

This is a prediction which leads on from the previous one. Both sides have characteristics which make them vulnerable to conceding, whether its Wednesday’s lack of experience and thin squad or Bristol City’s aggressive style of play. Wednesday in particular are struggling up front having only scored three, and nine conceded means the table looks for grim reading at this early stage. The away side have scored nine themselves and conceded four, so while they are good going forward they do have vulnerabilities at the back. It’s likely both teams will look to this game as an opportunity to get up the table as Wednesday try and avoid the drop zone and Bristol City look for promotion. With the stats in mind, it’s clear there will be goals, probably for both sides.

Full preview of the game: last results and head to head

This is a massive game at this stage of the season, with two sides going head-to-head as they look to climb towards the promotion places, and away from the relegation zone respectively. Wednesday have been poor despite their difficult circumstances, and anything except for relegation will be an immense success this season. They have only one point thus far this season and lie 23rd, with their point against Wrexham the only thing getting them off the foot of the table. Their opponents have started well and are unbeaten thus far in the play-off spots, though they have drawn twice already. In terms of last results before the international break, Wednesday lost 2-0 at home to Swansea, while Bristol City beat Hull 4-2. In this fixture last season, both games were draws, though there is clearly more between the two teams this season. This is a fascinating match up and while Wednesday will see an opportunity, Bristol City will certainly fancy themselves.
