Our Three Predictions for Huddersfield Town vs Peterborough United

  • First Prediction: Huddersfield Town to win – 11/25
  • Second Prediction: Both teams to score – no – 1/1
  • Third Prediction: Alfie May to score at any time – 9/10

First Prediction for Huddersfield Town vs Peterborough United – Huddersfield Town to win – 11/25

Darren Ferguson’s Peterborough side have really struggled this season so far. Winless and sitting dead last in League One, the games don’t get easier, with an away trip to Huddersfield next up on the cards. After the disaster that was last season, Posh were expected to spend big to get themselves out of the mess they are in; however, a busy transfer window has seen no improvements, with the side on one point after six games in the league, whilst they are also yet to win in any cup competition. The hosts, on the other hand, have had an encouraging start to life under new manager Lee Grant, and with a very good squad, are one of the favourites to earn promotion back to the second tier this season. Although a loss at the hands of Barnsley would have hampered their spirits, an emphatic 6-2 win in the Vertu Trophy midweek against Newcastle United U21S should give them the confidence they need to go and deliver a result against a poor Posh side. Grant’s side are unbeaten at home so far, whilst their opponents have yet to gain even a point on the road. If the Terriers are serious about contending for promotion, they need to win these games against struggling opponents.

Second Prediction for Huddersfield Town vs Peterborough United – Both teams to score – no – 1/1

Whilst the hosts have the joint-best goalscoring record in the third tier so far, scoring 11 times in six league games, the same cannot be said for the away side, who currently have the joint-worst record in terms of goalscoring, scoring just two in six. On top of this, Ferguson’s side have the second-worst defensive record in the division, and have conceded 11 goals in six games in the league, whilst also conceding five goals in two games in the cup competitions. Huddersfield, on the other hand, have conceded six, three of which came last week at Oakwell. In terms of goalscoring and attacking options, it’s clear to see that the hosts have better options, manager Grant making nine changes on Tuesday to a side who scored six past Newcastle U21S. Defensively, the hosts also have a better record and have kept four clean sheets in League One. All the stats pre-game are pointing to the fact that Posh may struggle to score at one end and then may struggle to keep them out at the other end.

Third Prediction for Huddersfield Town vs Peterborough United – Alfie May to score at any time – 9/10

If you’re looking for a proven League One striker, Alfie May certainly fits the bill. Across several clubs, he’s shown time and again that he can find the net at this level. Huddersfield paid £1.2 million to bring him in from Birmingham City, and early signs suggest he’s already justifying that seven-figure investment. The 32-year-old wasted little time, scoring his first goal for the club in the win over Leyton Orient at home on the opening day of the season, and has now notched two goals in his last seven appearances. Both May and his new side will be eager to build on that momentum, with the striker hoping to play a decisive role in securing another crucial win against a defensively shaky Peterborough team determined to cause an upset at the Accu Stadium.

Full Preview of the Game – Last Results and Head-To-Head

As mentioned above, the hosts come into this game on the back of three wins and one draw in their last five, whilst their opponents haven’t won a game this season yet, losing four of their last five games in all competitions.

These sides both had difficult campaigns last season; the hosts finished 10th after being relegated from the second tier, while their opponents finished 18th, five points off the relegation zone after finishing in the playoff spots the previous year. This season, neither side will want a repeat, the Terriers spending big as they hunt for promotion, with Posh looking to climb the table after a slow start.

Since 2010, these sides have met 10 times in various competitions, including the EFL Trophy, Championship, League One, and League One playoffs. The Posh have won the most games out of the 10, winning four, whilst three have gone in the favour of the hosts. The three other ties have ended level after full-time. Last time these sides met, Peterborough won 1-0 away at the Accu Stadium thanks to a goal on the stroke of half-time from Hector Kyprianou.
