Stockport County have unveiled Tyler Onyango as their latest Deadline Day purchase. The returning defender/midfielder will link up with familiar teammates in a somewhat new-look County side.
Onyango joins on a season-long loan from Everton and will be looking to add to a 10-game feature last campaign with Stockport. The former Burton Albion loanee has featured just five times for the Toffees and needs to develop elsewhere from the Premier league club.
The former England under-17 and under-18s representative will look to overcome last season’s injury with much-admired quality from performances last year. Onyango can now return to Edgeley Park in the hope of a fresh start under Dave Challinor.
Simon Wilson, Stockport’s CEO, had this to say about the recent signing and what made the club trust in the 22-year-old’s development once more:
“We are delighted to welcome Tyler back to the club. We have had to be patient as Everton have needed him with their first-team, but that is terrific experience for Tyler which he can bring into his time with us.
“We know he is a versatile player and we believe he can positively contribute to the team in several ways. The last time around it was cut short through injury, but I think we all saw the potential. We are looking forward to working with him again.”
Dave Challinor also offered his insight on the signature and what Onyango could offer them once more:
“We’re all delighted to be able to welcome Tyler back to the Club. Since the start of pre-season our desire to get him back with us has been no secret, but we were understanding of Everton’s position and the necessity to keep him in with them.
“Hopefully now he can pick up where he finished off with us the last time he was here – we’re really looking forward to seeing him get started this time. His athleticism, pace, power and ability to play in numerous positions will be invaluable to us and, importantly, he already knows us and knows what we’re about.”

Onyango could help aid Stockport in a promotion push and build on last season’s promising performances. The 22-year-old will be looking to develop as well as prove a point to David Moyes.
County are picking up a proven youngster who is thought of highly among the Toffees’ ranks. Onyango could start as an important squad player and rise up the pecking order with nothing to lose for both parties.
