Bradford City Reach Contract Decision

Bradford City have confirmed that Adam Wilson’s contract has been ended by mutual consent.

The Bantams have made a blistering start to life back in League One and have been the strongest of the four promoted sides, sitting in fourth place with 14 points from six matches. With Stephen Humphrys signed as a new striker and Andy Cook on the road to recovery following his ACL injury, Graham Alexander’s side have made a decision on one forward’s future.

Wilson On The Way Out

City have confirmed that Adam Wilson will leave Valley Parade after his contract was ended by mutual consent. The Kenyan international joined in 2023 from Welsh league giants The New Saints, and made 16 appearances across his first season at the West Yorkshire side and scored once.

He was then sent back on loan to the Oswestry side last season, and featured for them as they embarked on their first-ever season in European competition, playing eight times across their Conference League campaign. He would score nine times across 40 appearances in Green and White.

Reports earlier this summer stated that both Wilson and fellow forward Tyler Smith were told that neither was in Graham Alexander’s plans heading into next season as the Bantams made the step up to League One. Speaking to the Telegraph and Argus, the former Salford City boss said:

“The choice is down to them. They can stay and compete for a place in the team but I’ve explained to them the realities about the whole situation.

“They couldn’t get in the team last year and we’ve been successful. We’ve brought in new players again, so it will be difficult for them.

“We’re not shoving anybody out the door but they are both young players who want to play football. I understand that 100 per cent.”

Writers’ View

It is in the best interests of both club and player to cancel Adam Wilson’s contract at Bradford City. The 25-year-old never seemed up to pace with Bradford and was never likely to displace Andy Cook with the form he displayed in Wilson’s first season. The signings of Calum Kavanagh and, later, Stephen Humphrys mean that his chances are extremely limited at City and a move away will help him kick on with his career.
