Our Three Predictions For Stoke City vs West Bromwich Albion

- Second Prediction: Both Teams To Score – 4/5
- Third Prediction: Anytime Goalscorer – Sorba Thomas – 11/4
First Prediction For Stoke City vs West Bromwich Albion – Match Result – Draw – 23/10
Stoke City’s early season form has come as somewhat of a surprise after becoming an ever present in the bottom half of the Championship in recent seasons. With three successive wins, they head into this game at the top of the league and riding a crest after their excellent win over Southampton at St Mary’s last weekend. Manager Mark Robins opted to make wholesale changes to his team for their midweek Carabao Cup clash against League One high-fliers Bradford City. This ultimately cost them their place in the competition, with the Bantams leaving the bet365 Stadium with an impressive 3-0 victory. Although Robins was disappointed with the result, he has since admitted that his selection was made with this game in mind, with the former Coventry City boss keen to keep up their momentum.
West Bromwich Albion are still in the early stages of a new era following the appointment of Ryan Mason in June. It’s been an impressive start for the two-time Tottenham Hotspur interim, having picked up two wins and a draw from his opening three games. However, the 34-year-old will serve a touchline ban for this fixture after he was sent off during last weekend’s stalemate against Portsmouth. Still, he will made his presence felt and his squad seem to be in a good place. As a result, a point apiece seems a fair assessment.
Second Prediction For Stoke City vs West Bromwich Albion – Both Teams To Score – 4/5
Only Coventry City have scored more than Stoke this season, although their 7-1 win over Queens Park Rangers has had a major say in that. The Potters have hit the back of the net eight times after scoring three against Derby County and Sheffield Wednesday before their 2-1 victory over Southampton last week. However, they have conceded in two of their three outings thus far, which is an identical record to the visitors.
The Baggies recorded a 1-0 win over Blackburn Rovers on the opening day but have followed that by conceding three times in their last two. This included a 3-2 triumph against Wrexham at the STōK Cae Ras before last weekend’s 1-1 draw against Portsmouth. Ryan Mason’s side were also involved in another 1-1 against Derby County in the Carabao Cup, a game they eventually lost on penalties. It’s also worth considering that the last six meetings between these two teams have seen both teams score.
Third Prediction For Stoke City vs West Bromwich Albion – Sorba Thomas – Anytime Goalscorer
One thing Stoke struggled with last season was goals. They scored 45 times in 46 league fixtures, but they seem to have struck gold with Sorba Thomas. The 26-year-old arrived at the bet365 Stadium in the summer from League One outfit Huddersfield Town, having spent the last campaign at French top flight outfit Nantes. Although the winger has hardly been prolific during his career, he has hit the ground running in Staffordshire with two goals and three assists in just three outings.
He opened his account with a goal and assist against Derby County on the opening day before providing two more goals against Sheffield Wednesday. The former Blackburn Rovers loanee then followed that by scoring his second of the campaign against Southampton last weekend, putting his side 2-0 up in a game they eventually won 2-1. Finally given a new lease of life in the Championship, he has fast become Stoke’s talisman and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him find the back of the net once again.

Full Preview of the Game: Last Results and Head-To-Head
Stoke have taken everyone by surprise in their opening three league games. They started the campaign with a comfortable 3-1 win over Derby County before a 3-0 triumph against Sheffield Wednesday a week later. Whereas those two results weren’t a major shock, the manor of the victories gave cause for optimism ahead of their trip to Southampton last week. The Saints are one of the favourites for promotion following their relegation from the Premier League last season and were expected to dish out a first defeat to Mark Robins’ side. However, the Potters took the lead through Lewis Baker in the 54th minute, but it looked as if the pendulum had swung in favour of the home side when attacker Divin Mubama was shown a second yellow card five minutes later. Despite being a man down, Stoke doubled their lead through Sorba Thomas with 15 minutes remaining and although Will Still’s team pulled a goal back through Taylor Harwood-Bellis, the Staffordshire-based side hung on to extend their 100% start. As a result, they currently start top of the table. The manager then opted to give the majority of his starting XI a rest as a much-changed side were firmly beaten 3-0 by League One outfit Bradford City in the Carabao Cup second round.
West Bromwich Albion have begun life under Ryan Mason in excellent fashion. His first competitive game saw him welcome Blackburn Rovers to The Hawthorns where an early goal from Isaac Price was enough to seal the three points. The Baggies suffered a blip by losing on penalties in the first round of the Carabao Cup against Derby but put that behind them with an excellent 3-2 victory over Wrexham at the STōK Cae Ras. West Brom dropped their first points of the season in a 1-1 draw with Portsmouth last weekend, a game which saw Mason receive his marching orders. As a result, he will serve a touchline ban for the clash at the bet365 Stadium this weekend.
This is a fixture which has been a regular on the calendar for several years now. They both enjoyed a decent stint in the Premier League before suffering relegation in the 2017/18 season. West Brom briefly returned to the top tier for the 2020/21 campaign, meaning the pair have had just one season in recent memory where they’ve not met. The Baggies won the corresponding fixture at the bet365 Stadium last season 2-1, although the reverse at The Hawthorns finished 1-1. Stoke haven’t won at home against the West Midlanders in the league since 2021. Overall, there have been 157 clashes between the pair, with the Potters winning 52, Albion 65, whilst 40 have ended in a draw.
