- 3rd prediction: Both teams to score – No
1st prediction for Wrexham vs Sheffield Wednesday: Wrexham to win or draw – 11/50
This is a hugely exciting game towards the bottom of the division. The two teams came into the season in very different scenarios, but both lie without a point near the foot of the table. Wrexham have had three consecutive promotions but will use this season to consolidate in the second tier, and for the first time in many years will have to get used to potentially losing more than they win, which has been the case thus far. As for Wednesday, they did well and finished mid-table last season under former boss Danny Rohl, who performed miracles at Hillsborough in tough circumstances. Rohl, like many players, left South Yorkshire in the summer amid off-pitch chaos which has seen players paid wages late and doubts cast on their ability to fulfil fixtures. Despite this, the season as kicked off for the Owls with strong protests against the ownership as new boss Henrik Pedersen looks to do the impossible and avoid relegation. Wednesday have struggled with recruitment for obvious reasons and have suffered injuries leaving them with the bare bones, while Wrexham have flexed their financial muscles. It’s this context that makes Wrexham firm home favourites while Wednesday seem set for a third successive loss.
2nd prediction for Wrexham vs Sheffield Wednesday: Over 2.5 goals in the game – 7/10
This is likely to be an interesting game in front of goal. While Wrexham have yet to pick up a point they have generally played pretty well, scoring at least one in all of their games, including a thrilling Carabao Cup penalty win over Hull. That’s without their big-money reinforcements really kicking in, with Nathan Broadhead still to add to the team. With home advantage, and a crowd used to winning and waiting for their first Championship victory, they’ll be well up for it here. Their only issue is defensively, with errors leading to goals highlighting the step into the unknown for many. As for the away side, they have the natural disadvantage of being the away team, as well as their oof-field issues and squad selection dilemmas. Key players Nathaniel Chalobah and Pierce Charles have both been lost to long-term injuries, which makes their chances even slimmer. With Wrexham’s attacking talent, their inexperience and goalkeeping unfamiliarity, there will likely be goals for both sides. Couple that with Wednesday’s clear vulnerabilities and probable weak line-up, plus Wrexham’s home advantage, and all the signs point towards a high scorer.
3rd prediction for Wrexham vs Sheffield Wednesday: Both teams to score – 3/4
This is a prediction which leads on from the previous one. All the signs are leading to an open game, with both sides looking vulnerable and with areas to exploit. Wrexham are probably just about favourites in terms of amount of goals purely due to their talent and home advantage, but they have the pressure of getting their first win and climbing the table in front of home fans while Wednesday expectations couldn’t be lower. They can play without pressure which may actually aid them in front of goal, but if previous performances are anything to go by they will ship a few. The same can be said for Wrexham though, so this should be an entertaining one.

Full preview of the game: last results and head to head
This is a hugely consequential game so early on in the season In terms of last results, Wrexham lost 3-2 at home to West Brom despite late hopes of a comeback, while Wednesday were hammered 3-0 by early leaders Stoke. Both sides remain without a point in the league, though both won on penalties in the Carabao Cup. While matters seem similar in games, they couldn’t be further away from each other. Optimism is high in North Wales as the team enter their first season in the second tier for decades, with three promotions on the bounce and a great feeling around the club and town. That couldn’t be less true for Wednesday, with large protests against Dejphon Chansiri’s ownership and a feeling of resignation already, only two games into the season. This is further represented in the transfer window; Wednesday have struggled to put a squad together and had to contend with many departures in the summer and uncertainty over the players who remain, with Saturday’s team looking like it will be patched together once again. Wrexham, however have the opposite situation, having spent big in the summer to help them stay in the division, with virtually every player keen to be part of the project. These matters are likely to be on show on the pitch come Saturday, with many backing a first Wrexham win.
