First Prediction for Stockport County vs Burton Albion – Half Time Result – Stockport County 21/20
Three wins in all competitions so far this campaign should suggest that Stockport have enough comparative quality to grab all three points by the end of this game. However, with a full-time result valued at 12/25, the half-time Stockport win may be more appealing considering the positive trend in all five of their matches so far (four in League One, one in the EFL Cup).
Burton have been tough to break down, aside from their 3-2 defeat to Barnsley. Away from home against another promotion-pushing side could see a repeat of this Oakwell visit however. Despite losing to the Bantams on Tuesday, County took the advantage in the first 45 and went in as leaders during half-time. This was also the case in domestic wins against Bolton Wanderers and Crewe Alexandra as well as in a 2-2 draw against Leyton Orient. In the latter, Stockport threw away a 2-0 half-time lead after Nathan Lowe and Joseph Olowu handed Dave Challinor’s side the opening advantage.
At 21/20, the bet will back a team who have proven their ability to start strong so far this season. Burton are a resolute side who can be tough to break down, with an early onslaught being a more than capable attribute of Gary Bowyer’s team too. This is why it is a slightly cautious bet, but Albion could be susceptible to the attacking ranks of Kyle Wootton, Nathan Lowe, Jack Diamond, Antoni Sarcevic and Malik Mothersille.
Second Prediction for Stockport County vs Burton Albion – Oliver Norwood to score anytime 5/1
It would be easy to overlook Oliver Norwood as an attacking asset for Stockport, considering his deeper, more playmaking-focused role in midfield. However, as the Hatters’ experienced head and designated penalty taker, a 5/1 punt may see Norwood replicate last campaign’s exceptional end-of-season form.
Norwood scored twice from the penalty spot in Stockport’s final three league fixtures of 2024/25. An opening, semi-final leg with Leyton Orient also saw the former Sheffield United star equalise on the hour mark, with the game eventually ending in a 2-2 stalemate. The 34-year-old has the occasional long-ranged strike in him too, with an example against Shrewsbury Town in January’s 1-0 victory emphasising the midfielder’s possessed quality.
It may still be up in the air whether Nathan Lowe could take over penalty duties during his loan spell with the Hatters, but judging off previous seasons’ reliability, Norwood remains the first choice. At 5/1, this has an outside chance of landing and makes sense if the midfielder can replicate his aforementioned form.
Third Prediction for Stockport County vs Burton Albion – Over 3.5 goals 11/5
Burton Albion have only seen this bet land in one game this season – an intense 3-2 capitulation against Barnsley. However, this could land once more as Stockport offer similar – if not better – attacking threat to the Tykes. The Brewers conceded an xG of 2.55 while generating 1.96 themselves. With clear-cut chances at both ends during this game, County could capitalise on the defence’s ability to be breached.
Despite two impressive defensive performances from Burton, against Port Vale and Tranmere Rovers, Challinor’s side have been involved in high-scoring games often this season. Their ability to score for fun, while maintaining enough control over defensive solidity, has seen a 3-1 win against Crewe be followed up by an intense 2-2 draw with Orient. If Stockport are firing on all cylinders up front, Burton could struggle to keep them quiet.

Full Preview of the Game – Last Results and Head-to-Head
As previously mentioned, Albion began strongly this season. A 2-0 win against Mansfield Town saw a flourishing performance from Charlie Webster, the former Chelsea academy graduate. Two audacious strikes nestled in the back of the Stags’ net, but fortunes have only seen one further point be added to this season’s tally so far. A 0-0 draw with Port Vale and a 1-1 stalemate with Tranmere in the Carabao Cup came after a 3-2 loss to Barnsley.
Stockport sit in eighth place, with a relatively poor opening-weekend performance against Bolton proving the Hatters can still leave with three points. This 2-0, opening weekend showing was followed by a 2-1 victory against Wycombe Wanderers and a 3-1 EFL Cup win over Crewe. A 2-2 draw with Leyton Orient came before a first loss of the season hosting Bradford.
In terms of head-to-head outings between the two, Stockport successfully beat Burton convincingly on both occasions. Less so their home tie, but a 2-1 victory in March saw County lead by two goals until an 89th minute lifeline was thrown by Julian Larsson. In November 2024’s iteration of this tie, Louie Barry scored twice in a 3-0 away win for Stockport. Before this, the most recent meeting came in 2011.
