Swansea City vs Sheffield United: Prediction, Lineups & Odds (16/08)

Sheffield United make the trip to Wales to take on Swansea City in the second Championship matchday at the Swansea.com Stadium on Saturday.

Our Three Predictions for Swansea City vs Sheffield United

  • First Prediction: Match to end in a draw – 11/5
  • Second Prediction: Over 1.5 goals to be scored – 17/50
  • Third Prediction: Tyrese Campbell to score at any time – 11/5

First Prediction for Swansea City vs Sheffield United – Match to end in a draw – 11/5

It’s fair to say these sides haven’t had the best start to the season so far under their new managers, who are both going into their first full season of management at both clubs. Alan Sheehan’s side started with a disappointing 1-0 loss at the Riverside to Middlesbrough, but they bounced back midweek to progress to the second round of the Carabao Cup against Crawley Town. The same can’t be said for their opponents, however, who have lost back-to-back games so far. A shock 4-1 loss at home to Bristol City was followed by a tough away tie to Birmingham City in the first round of the cup, which they too lost 2-1. With it being the start of the season, there’s no reason to panic, but with both sides struggling, it may mean this clash ends level. On top of this, Swansea had one of the worst home records in the division last season, whilst the Blades had one of the best away records, which again, may level itself out in this clash and mean that the game ends level.

Second Prediction for Swansea City vs Sheffield United – Over 1.5 goals to be scored – 17/50

In recent games, both sides have been involved in some high-scoring encounters. Both sides’ midweek games featured over 1.5 goals, whilst Sheffield United are yet to have a game which hasn’t seen less than two goals. The Swans have conceded nine goals in their last six games, and haven’t kept a clean sheet since last season, whilst their opponents have conceded 11, keeping clean sheets in pre-season against lower league opposition, but not in the five games since. On top of this, both sides have proved they can score goals; the Blades scoring 10 in their last five, whilst the hosts have scored eight in their last six. This game could see more than 1.5 goals scored, with both sides proving they know where the back of the net is, on top of the fact that neither side’s defensive record has been good so far.

Third Prediction for Swansea City vs Sheffield United – Tyrese Campbell to score at any time – 11/5

Tyrese Campbell impressed in his first season at Bramall Lane last season, scoring 11 Championship goals in 36 games after joining the side from fellow Championship rivals Stoke City. The 25-year-old has already opened his account for this season, getting Sheffield United’s only goal last weekend, after a positive record in pre-season. In four pre-season games, Campbell bagged three goals, carrying on from his good form last season almost immediately. It’s no surprise to see the striker backed to score in this game, considering his recent goalscoring record. Sheffield United and Selles alike will be hoping he can further add to his tally this season to help his side on Saturday.

Full Preview of the Game – Last Results and Head-To-Head

As mentioned above, both sides have had a mixed start to the season, with the hosts losing away at Middlesbrough on the opening day but bouncing back against League Two side Crawley Town 3-1 to make it through to the second round of the Carabao Cup midweek. For Sheffield United, life under new manager Selles hasn’t gone to plan so far, suffering a shock 4-1 defeat against Bristol City at Bramall Lane before losing to Birmingham City in the EFL Trophy midweek.

There’s no doubt the away side will be gunning for promotion after the disappointment of losing last season’s play-off final in the dying minutes, whilst Sheehan and his Swans side will be looking to climb the table in what is his first full season in charge in Wales.

Since 2010, these sides have met each other 10 times, with all the clashes coming in the second tier. The Baldes have won this matchup six times, whilst Swansea have only won three times. The other tie has ended level at full time. When these sides met last, second-half goals from Rhian Brewster and Harrison Burrows saw the away side take all three points in Wales, ruling out Florian Bianchini’s early goal.
