Barrow Unveil Incredible Attacking Addition For League Two Level

In a shock, statement signing for Barrow, Rhys Healey has moved to the League Two side on a half-season loan. Just four years ago, the 30-year-old had a breakout season in Ligue 2.

Nothing Toulouse in Healey’s Latest Move

Toulouse, who purchased Healey from Milton Keynes Dons in August 2020, deployed the Welshman primarily as a number nine. In 77 appearances, the striker scored 39 goals. A move to Watford in July 2023 offered a natural step up to English football, but two goals in 11 Championship matches simply wasn’t good enough for the Hornets considering his injury record.

After a six-month spell with Watford, Huddersfield Town picked Healey up the following January and handed him 22 games over a two-year period. A string of seasons with injury-hampered stages and a lower place in the pecking orders inevitably lead to a drop in league quality. Barrow have capitalised on the out-of-favour striker’s situation – at least on a six-month deal.

Spontaneous Switch to Barrow

Injury concerns will be Barrow’s main predicament, but a drop down in quality may be less strenuous on a consistent basis for the susceptible striker. Healey had this to say on his latest career move to Andy Whing’s side:

“It literally [happened] in the space of three or four hours last night. I was just sitting there with my family, and the next minute, I was ready to make my way up here.

“But the quicker it gets done, the better for me so I can just get straight into it.”

Writer’s View

Without much information suggesting Barrow were in for Healey, this revelation comes as an ambitious shock. The Bluebirds have needed to prioritise attacking transfers towards the end of this window and look to have smartly snapped up a quality attacker.

If the 30-year-old can recoup just half of his goalscoring prowess in France, the league will be a walk in the park for the Welshman. It cannot be stressed enough just how good this transfer could be for Barrow. A lower League One side could have been in for Healey and it would have been a great piece of business; Barrow have pulled off one of the fourth-tier signings of the window.
