1st Prediction For Middlesbrough vs Swansea City: Swansea City to win 5/2
As is always the case in the early weeks of the season, it is hard to pick a winner in Middlesbrough’s encounter with Swansea City as each side are yet to kick a ball in anger. However, the bookmakers are offering much more fruitful odds on predicting the Welshmen to emerge victorious on the first day of the season. Alan Sheehan’s side have recruited well over the summer, signing Cameron Burgess, who was a key part of the Ipswich Town side that won promotion two seasons ago, on a free transfer whilst also picking up two players who have shown their quality in League One over multiple seasons, in Ethan Galbraith and Ricardo Santos. Adding those players to a strong core, which contains the likes of Ben Cabango, Josh Tymon and Liam Cullen, means the Swans should be more than able to compete at the Riverside.
2nd Prediction For Middlesbrough vs Swansea City: Both teams to score: yes 7/10
A slightly safer prediction for those who are perhaps not willing to favour one team over another is to predict both teams to score. Whilst it will obviously lead to a less fruitful outcome, both sides boast a number of quality attackers. Middlesbrough will likely have Tommy Conway leading the line and, if he is fit, Finn Azaz is also an incredibly dangerous player who can create and score chances. Liam Cullen had his best season in a Swansea City shirt last campaign, scoring 11 league goals in 35 starts, and Zan Vipotnik will be looking to kick on during his second season in English football. Additionally, Luton Town had one of the leakiest defences in the second tier under the tutelage of now Middlesbrough manager Rob Edwards, a characteristic that he must make sure does not carry over to his new team.
3rd Prediction For Middlesbrough vs Swansea City: Tommy Conway to score The first goal: 7/2
Given the question marks over the fitness of Finn Azaz, the star attacker that fans and pundits will be looking out for on Saturday afternoon is Tommy Conway. The 22-year-old arrived at the Riverside in the summer of 2024 and continued his form as one of the most potent attacking players in the second tier, registering 13 goals in 37 league games for Middlesbrough, making him the sixth-highest scorer in the Championship. During preseason, he has spoken about how his role has changed under Edwards as he is now looking to stay between the posts more and run the channels less, which should mean he is more prolific than ever.

Full Preview of the Game – Last Results and Head-To-Head
After three seasons under Michael Carrick which showed a lot of promise, but underdelivered in terms of results, Middlesbrough decided to part ways with the former Manchester United player and bring in Rob Edwards. However, the former Luton Town manager has been fairly quiet in the transfer market thus far. The standout arrivals at the Riverside are Callum Brittain, who has been excellent for Blackburn Rovers over the past few seasons, and Abdoulaye Kante, who has impressed in the French second tier with Troyes. This season will surely be one of consolidation for the Boro.
As for Swansea, they finished just one place and three points behind Middlesbrough last campaign despite having less investment than the Boro. If they can score the 1.9 points per game which Alan Sheehan managed in the final few months of last campaign, they will be challenging for automatic promotion, though that success hardly seems sustainable. They have recruited well thus far, but losing Harry Darling to Norwich City for free is a big blow. They will likely also be in the top half this season, though they may lack the firepower to push for the playoffs.
The head-to-head record between the two sides is incredibly even as they have both won eight games each, with three of them ending in a draw. Last campaign, both games were won by the home sides by a margin of one goal to nil.
