Truro City Secure Football League Talent For National League Campaign

Truro City have secured the services of experienced striker Rekeil Pyke on a one-year deal.

The former Grimsby Town and Shrewsbury Town man joins the National League newcomers ahead of the 2025–26 campaign.

Pyke Adds EFL Experience to Ambitious Truro Side

Pyke, 27, arrives at Truro after departing Grimsby Town this summer, following a two-year spell at Blundell Park. The Leeds-born forward, who can also operate on the wing or as a wing back, made 34 appearances for the Mariners, scoring four goals in League Two. He also featured briefly for Eastleigh during a short loan stint earlier this year.

The new deal includes the option of a further 12-month extension, as John Askey looks to bolster his attacking options ahead of a tough National League campaign. Pyke becomes the second senior addition to Truro’s forward line this summer, following Luke Jephcott’s permanent switch from Plymouth Argyle.

Pyke’s arrival boosts a squad already buoyed by the contract renewals of key players, including club captain Tyler Harvey and forward Dominic Johnson-Fisher.

A product of the Huddersfield Town academy, Pyke’s career has included loan spells with Colchester United, Port Vale, Wrexham and Rochdale before signing permanently for Shrewsbury Town in 2020. While at the New Meadow, he was converted from a striker to a wing back under Steve Cotterill and made 65 league appearances over three seasons.

Following his release from Shrewsbury, Pyke joined Grimsby in June 2023, but struggled to cement a consistent starting role under either Paul Hurst or successor David Artell. A loan spell at Eastleigh followed in January 2025, with Pyke playing just three matches before his release at the end of the campaign.

Despite mixed fortunes in the EFL, Pyke’s pedigree and versatility are seen as major assets for Truro, who are preparing for their first-ever season at National League level.

“I spoke to the manager and it is an exciting time to join the club and I can’t wait to get going,” Pyke told the club website.

“I have played at this level for Wrexham, whilst also playing in League One and Two, so hopefully I can bring my experience to Truro, so we can go on a good run.

“As a team, we will be giving everything to try and achieve something similar to last season. That is the goal for me in every season I play.

“There is a good togetherness within the group and I am happy to be joining a dressing room like this.”

Writer’s View

This is a smart, low-risk signing for Truro City. Rekeil Pyke may never have fully lived up to early expectations during his time at Huddersfield or Shrewsbury, but his adaptability and Football League know-how make him a shrewd addition.

If he rediscovers form similar to his best spell at Wrexham, he could prove invaluable in Truro’s bid to stay in the fifth tier. With Jephcott, Harvey and now Pyke, Wotton has a front line capable of troubling defences at this level. It’s going to be a big ask for the first Cornish club at this level to stay around, but their recruitment is certainly pointing them in the right direction.
