Latest Bolton Wanderers signing Ethan Erhahon has been tipped to help fire his new club into ‘the promotion mix’ following his £750,000 transfer from Lincoln City.
The 24-year-old had emerged as one of the most highly sought-after talents in League One since joining the Imps from Scottish outfit St Mirren in January 2023. He was initially linked with a move away from the LNER Stadium last summer, prompting CEO Liam Scully to admit there had been interest but it would have to be a sizeable bid to tempt them into selling.
The midfielder remained in the East Midlands and racked up 38 appearances in all competitions. Ironically, this included a bizarre sending off against Bolton in December, where he was shown a yellow card on the stroke of half time for dissent. Unable to conceal his anger, he then berated the referee after the half time whistle, leading to a second caution.
Bolton Landed Major Coup Ahead Of Championship Interest
Erhahon was always expected to leave Lincoln this summer, although many expected it to be for a seven figure fee and to the division above. There had been interest from the likes of Swansea City, Stoke City and Oxford United, but it was Bolton who eventually won the race.
The Trotters are hoping to finally get out of League One this season and return to the Championship for the first time since 2019. Steven Schumacher replaced Ian Evatt in January and looked as if he may guide his new team into the play-offs, but they faltered in the latter stages of the season.
There have been 10 new arrivals to the Toughsheet Community Stadium already this summer, but talkSPORT pundit Adrian Clarke believes it is Erhahon who will make the biggest difference, branding the former Scotland under-21 international as the player to watch in League One this season:
“Central midfielder Ethan Erhahon has just been signed by Bolton from Lincoln City and he’s a composed, quality holding midfielder who can get the ball and give it and orchestrate play from deep. He can do a little bit of everything and win the ball back with great efficiency too.
“Bolton will be up there in the promotion mix and I expect Erhahon to be absolutely one of their main men.”
Writer’s View
Ethan Erhahon has long been tipped to earn a Championship move following his excellent form at Lincoln City. He looked a cut above at Sincil Bank from the moment he arrived and always looked as if he was too good for League One. As a result, Bolton have signed a real gem and he absolutely could be the man to control the middle of the park in their quest for promotion.
