  • 3rd prediction: Both teams to score

1st prediction for Huddersfield Town vs Leyton Orient: Huddersfield Town to win or draw – 1/4

This is a fascinating match up for the opening weekend. Opening days are unknowns usually but this is even more up in the air. Huddersfield boss Lee Grant faces the prospect of his first game in management this weekend, while a much changed Leyton Orient side will look to improve on last season’s play-off run. The home side will look to improve on a poor campaign last season, and have been very active in the transfer market to that end with signings such as Alfie May. Leyton Orient’s have been less active, with many of their moves coming much more recently, which may have an impact. In addition to this, Orient have started the last few seasons badly before recovering well. They can’t afford to start slowly here though, or Huddersfield will punish them despite being an unknown quantity themselves. That, coupled with the Terriers doing their business earlier in the transfer window giving them more time to gel, makes the home side the favourites.

2nd prediction for Huddersfield Town vs Leyton Orient: Over 2.5 goals in the game – 19/20

This should be an entertaining game with plenty of goals. Lee Grant’s side are a complete unknown but he has made it clear he wants to attack and play on the front foot, especially in this first game at home. Orient will also be looking to play but will be cautious of Huddersfield’s quality and more likely to play on the break. Huddersfield’s status as favourites and home advantage means they will fancy themselves to score more through the likes of Alfie May and Joe Taylor, as well as through their set piece threats. Both sides may also be defensively vulnerable as they look to develop an understanding of new team-mates, which could lead to both sides shipping goals. Either way, expect goals.

3rd prediction for Huddersfield Town vs Leyton Orient: Both teams to score – 7/10

This is a game where both sides will go for it, which will likely see a very open game. Both sides will want to put on a show and make a statement of intent with a win to kick off their seasons. As discussed previously, the context of this game with the attacking talent and early season experimenting means goals and mistakes are potentially more likely. Tactically, this will be interesting too. Huddersfield will look to control the game and play on their terms with arguably a stronger squad, but Orient will also have their attacking phases and look good for a goal or two.

Full preview of the game: last results and head to head

This is a really exciting game to kick off the new season. Huddersfield have recruited incredibly well after a difficult 2024/25 campaign and have a new manager, so it really is a new dawn in West Yorkshire, they’re one of the favourites to go up this season, and a win here would really be a statement of intent. Orient have continuity with Richie Wellens in the dugout, but they have had some personnel change having relied heavily on loan players last season. They were a key part of the club’s play-off run but the O’s look good for another push at the top of the table, though they are probably underdogs here.
