Cambridge United have completed the signing of striker Louis Appéré from Stevenage, with the 26-year-old becoming the U’s ninth new addition of a busy summer.
The deal, confirmed for an undisclosed fee, sees Appéré sign a two-year contract and take the number nine shirt at the Abbey Stadium.
The move marks a fresh start for a player who, just two seasons ago, helped fire Northampton Town to promotion. Appéré made 20 appearances in League One last season after joining Stevenage but struggled for consistent minutes.
“I am delighted to be here,” Appéré told club media. “I needed a fresh start, and I am really happy that it’s all sorted. The manager made it clear that I was somebody he had been looking at for a little while, and one of the best feelings for a player is to be wanted. I feel great.”
Manager Neil Harris was equally enthusiastic about the deal, having made no secret of his desire to bolster the club’s attacking options. He said:
“I am delighted to welcome Louis to the football club. We have had to stay patient in our pursuit for a forward, but I am really happy that we have been able to bring Louis in to add to our attack. He is a hard-working striker who will hold the ball up, bring others into play, run the channels and, most importantly, score goals for us. We believe he still has room to grow as a player and I am excited to work with him over the next two seasons.”
Strategic Fit as Harris Shapes U’s Front Line
Cambridge have been notably methodical in this summer’s rebuild under Harris, who is preparing for his first full campaign at the helm. Appéré’s arrival adds physical presence and experience to a front line that has lacked a true focal point since the departure of Joe Ironside. The manager’s comments suggest he sees Appéré as a complete centre-forward, capable of linking play and relieving pressure as well as finding the net.
For Appéré, who began his career with Dundee United before moving south to Northampton in 2022, the move offers the chance to rediscover the form that made him such a key figure in Jon Brady’s Cobblers side. He scored eight times during that promotion-winning campaign and showed a knack for performing in high-pressure fixtures.

Writer’s View
This is a very smart piece of business by Cambridge United. Louis Appéré arrives with a clear hunger to prove himself and the ideal profile for what Neil Harris has been missing—an honest, aggressive centre-forward who can lead the line.
Appéré’s time at Stevenage didn’t deliver the minutes he’d hoped for, but that makes him even more determined to make this move count. In a league where strikers can often be the difference between mid-table and a play-off push, this could be one of the most important signings Cambridge make all summer.
