Portsmouth Add European Talent To Midfield Roster

Portsmouth have had an interesting start to their summer business, with several free departures making way for exciting new faces at Fratton Park. The latest to join John Mousinho’s Championship side is Márk Kosznovszky.

In an undisclosed-priced move from Hungarian side MTK Budapest, the 23-year-old will be unveiled as Pompey’s latest arrival if international clearance is granted. Kosznovszky is a product of the Parma youth academy, but only made one appearance for the Serie A side before heading over to Hungary in 2021.

While remaining with MTK Budapest, as his parent club up until this EFL move, the creative midfielder was sent on loan to Tiszakécskei LC as well as Kozármisleny SE in order to develop in the lower leagues of Hungary. Upon his return in July 2023, the 23-year-old had just scored three times in 35 appearances for his loan side. In the 2024/25 season, the midfielder featured 28 times and offered six goal contributions from a commanding role.

Mousinho Delighted With Recruitment

Portsmouth have also announced the signings of Adrian Segecic from Sydney FC as well as the free acquisition of John Swift from West Bromwich Albion. Mousinho is particularly excited about this addition, handing the Hungarian a glowing report in the club media unveiling:

“We’ve brought in an exciting young player, who is very energetic and talented.

“He can do a bit of everything – being able to handle the ball and also be a bit more attacking to make an impact in the final third.

“Márk is also a very powerful runner and we believe he can adapt well to playing in the Championship, so we’re delighted to add him to our squad.”

Writer’s View

Mousinho is moulding his side into a Championship calibre team. Following an impressive and relatively comfortable survival in their 2024/25 return season, the 39-year-old is looking to add real quality to push Portsmouth further forward.

If Kosznovszky can seamlessly transition into English football, following a lengthy spell in the Hungarian leagues, then Pompey are receiving a very technically gifted midfielder. A national youth experience in under-21 and under-17 levels will inevitably add to the midfielder’s profile ahead of the move to Fratton Park.
