Yeovil Town Announce Championship Right Back

Yeovil Town have confirmed the season-long loan signing of right back Byron Pendleton from Birmingham City.

The 19-year-old arrives at Huish Park after captaining the Blues’ Under-21 side and earning praise for his leadership, tenacity and forward drive. Pendleton impressed during a trial appearance in Yeovil’s recent 2-1 pre-season defeat against Bristol Rovers, prompting swift action from manager Mark Cooper to secure his signature.

“We’ve bided our time in order to find the right choice, and Byron is an exciting addition for us,” Cooper said. “He’s a young player with great potential, leadership qualities, and a hunger to succeed. He’ll fit in really well with what we’re building here.”

Pendleton will wear the number 2 shirt for Yeovil and is set to join the squad immediately ahead of this weekend’s friendly away to Bath City.

His signing marks another step in Yeovil’s squad rebuild as the Glovers look to push on from a solid 2024/25 campaign. The right back is expected to compete for a starting role immediately, bringing energy and composure to Cooper’s defensive unit.

Championship Pedigree For Non-League Ambitions

Although Pendleton has yet to make a senior appearance for Birmingham City, his reputation within the academy has been growing. Known for his pace, discipline and willingness to support attacks from deep, he has already shown signs of being ready for the senior game.

For Yeovil, the deal represents smart business. The Glovers continue to use the loan market effectively to add quality and experience from higher levels. With Pendleton joining a back line that has already seen positive signs during pre-season, his arrival offers depth and versatility in a key area.

As a player who has captained Birmingham’s development side, Pendleton brings more than just technical ability. His maturity and attitude have earned him high praise from academy staff, and the move to Huish Park could prove a valuable stepping stone for a career in the professional ranks.

The challenge now will be adapting to the physical nature of National League football. However, early signs suggest that Pendleton has both the temperament and tools to thrive at this level.

Writer’s View

This is a low-risk, high-reward signing for Yeovil Town. Byron Pendleton fits the profile of a player who can thrive in the National League and progress quickly. His grounding at Birmingham City, combined with the leadership experience he has already shown at under-21 level, makes him more than just a developmental pick.

Mark Cooper has been patient in the market, and this addition feels like a deliberate and strategic move. If Pendleton builds on his trial performance and adapts quickly to senior football, he could become a standout figure in the Glovers’ back line over the coming months.
