Coventry City can breathe a sigh of relief after reports of Milan van Ewijk being targeted by Burnley were denied.
The full-back and key part of Frank Lampard’s Sky Blues squad was linked with the Premier League side by Dutch transfer journalist Mounir Boualin in soccernews.nl, who also stated Bundesliga outfit Eintracht Frankfurt, among others, were also in the chase for the 24-year-old.
Reports Quashed
According to the Burnley Express, this latest report is “wide of the mark”, and Scott Parker’s side are not interested in signing van Ewijk, who still has two years left on his contract in the West Midlands. He played 45 times in the Championship last season for the Sky Blues, who fell agonisingly short in the playoff semi-final to Sunderland, who went on to gain promotion by beating Sheffield United at Wembley.
Burnley have already made a major move in the right-back position this summer with the permanent signing of Kyle Walker following his exodus from Manchester City, agreeing a two-year deal at Turf Moor. The full-back area is already well-stocked for the Clarets with Connor Roberts and Axel Tuanzebe both at the club.
For Coventry, they have also made upgrades in their defensive flanks with the signing of Spaniard Miguel Angel Brau from Granada as well as the versatile Kaine Kesler-Hayden from Aston Villa following a successful loan at Preston North End.

Writers’ View
This new report will be a big relief for Coventry, as the rumour of Milan van Ewijk leaving was quickly denied. His electric pace makes him a fine candidate for a move to the Premier League, but with the Clarets already signing two right-backs this window in Kyle Walker and Ipswich Town‘s Axel Tuanzebe, a move to Burnley would have been very odd. The Dutchman will play a vital role in The Sky Blues’ push for promotion again this season, and is someone Coventry needs to hold onto at all costs.
