Premier League giants Manchester United may pursue a move for Leicester City legend Jamie Vardy, but only as a last resort, according to The Athletic.
The 38-year-old brought to an end his 13 year stay at the King Power Stadium in May. His departure marked the end of a significant period in the Foxes history, with the striker having played a pivotal role in securing the Premier League title in 2016, the FA Cup in 2021, as well as the Community Shield and two Championship triumphs.
Vardy made his 500th – and last – appearance for the club against Ipswich Town in Leicester’s last home game of the season, a fixture which also saw him bag his 200th goal. He is targeting one last swansong and is said to be only interested in joining a club where he can be a regular starter or a top team where he can make a significant impact from the bench.
Vardy Offered To Manchester United
Despite their dire Premier League showing last season, Manchester United still fit the bill of a ‘top club’. Their woes in front of goal have been well documented and a striker is said to be one of their priorities this summer.
Ruben Amorim currently has misfiring Rasmus Hojlund as the only senior striker amongst his ranks, although new signing Matheus Cunha is capable of filling the position. Marcus Rashford remains on the books but is expected to depart the club in the coming weeks.

According to the report, the former England international is one of three names alongside Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Callum Wilson that have been offered to the Red Devils. However, the 20-time English champions will only explore a move should they fail to obtain any of their top targets.
Vardy has also been heavily linked with a move to the Scottish Premiership with Rangers, whilst the Championship’s latest addition Wrexham continue to be named in the conversation.
Writer’s View
Jamie Vardy moving to Manchester United would raise a few eyebrows, especially as Ruben Amorim is hoping to land a player who can be the focal point of the attack for years to come. At 38-years-old, the former Fleetwood Town man doesn’t fit that bill but it is a transfer which would have other benefits. For someone like Rasmus Hojlund, who is exceptionally low on confidence, drawing experience from a seasoned Premier League veteran like Vardy could prove invaluable. The same goes for the younger forwards coming through, such as Chido Obi-Martin.
