Luton Town have been tipped to storm to the League One title following their second successive relegation last season.
The Hatters thrust themselves into the public eye in 2023 when they earned a shock promotion to the Premier League. It was the first time the club had played in England’s top tier since 1992, then called Division One.
Their stay in one of Europe’s top leagues was a short one, with an 18th placed finish seeing them drop back down to the Championship at the first time of asking. However, they were widely praised for their performances, with their 38 league fixtures averaging a staggering 3.6 goals per game.
Despite that, they suffered a giant hangover. They instantly found themselves embroiled in a second relegation dogfight, which saw Rob Edwards replaced by Matt Bloomfield in January. Although form improved, the former Wycombe Wanderers boss was unable to save them from the drop.
Luton Tipped For Success
Following the exits of Birmingham City and Wrexham to the Championship, League One is arguably a more open division this time around. On paper, Luton possess one of the strongest squads. As a result, they have been tipped to secure the title come May by Sky Sports pundits Curtis Davies and Jobi McAnuff.
Taking to Instagram, the duo also predicted success for Stockport County and Bolton Wanderers. When asked who will win League One, Davies said:
“I will go with Luton Town.
“A former team, but I’d expect them, if they manage to retain most of their squad, to be there or thereabouts.
“Stockport. I think they were one of the best teams in the way they played.
“I think the experience of this year, having lost out in the play-offs, I think they’ll be ready to go and mount a charge.”

Agreeing with his colleague, McAnuff said:
“My favourites to win the league are going to be Luton Town.
“Really unlucky to get relegated right on the last day last year, I think Matt Bloomfield, with his experience at this level, will get them going.
“I think for automatic promotion, I’m going to throw Bolton Wanderers in there.
“Again, Steven Schumacher, someone I think will do a fantastic job there.”
Writer’s View
Luton are undoubtedly the favourites to breeze through League One, although similar was said last summer ahead of their Championship campaign. The Hatters were tipped by many for a top two finish, only to endure a nightmare campaign. We’ve seen so many times over the years big clubs that have struggled to get out of the third tier. Birmingham are the obvious exception, but the likes of Bolton, Sunderland, Leeds United and Sheffield United know all-too-well just how tough this division is.
