Jonson Clarke-Harris will not be returning to Bristol Rovers this summer, despite talks progressing well with the club.
The former fan favourite is now set to continue his career abroad, while the Gas face a tough battle in their pursuit of Millwall’s Macauley Langstaff.
Clarke-Harris Move Off As Striker Heads to Turkey
Hopes of a reunion between Clarke-Harris and Bristol Rovers have officially come to an end for this transfer window, with the 30-year-old reportedly set to sign for Turkish outfit Pendikspor. The striker, who recently departed Rotherham United by mutual consent, was on Rovers’ radar and reportedly came close to sealing a return to the Mem before negotiations stalled.
Clarke-Harris, a two-time League One Golden Boot winner, scored 27 goals in 52 appearances during a prolific 18-month spell with the Gas between 2019 and 2020. Talks over a return gathered pace after his release, but the lure of a fresh challenge abroad now appears to have sealed his next move.
Rovers had tried to bring Clarke-Harris back two years ago in a deadline day deal worth £800,000, only for it to collapse at the final hour. His most recent spell at Rotherham was underwhelming by his own standards, with seven League One goals last season. However, his proven record in the EFL meant there was significant interest across the division once he became available.

Langstaff Admired But Deal Looks Unlikely
Attention now turns to Millwall forward Macauley Langstaff, another name of interest as Bristol Rovers continue their search for attacking reinforcements. The 28-year-old remains a player highly regarded at the Mem, but a move is understood to be improbable at this stage of the window.
Langstaff joined Millwall last summer after an outstanding 2023/24 campaign with Notts County in League Two, where he scored 28 goals. Despite reported admiration from Rovers and several other League One clubs, there is currently no indication that Millwall are ready to let him go, and certainly not early in the window. Suggestions of a submitted bid have also been dismissed.
Rovers may revisit the situation later in the summer if Langstaff becomes available, but for now, their striker search will need to focus on more accessible targets. The club is determined to add firepower before the new League Two season begins, with a centre forward seen as the final piece in Darrell Clarke’s attacking rebuild.
Writer’s View
The collapse of the Clarke-Harris return will sting for some fans, especially given how close the club has come to re-signing him on multiple occasions. His physicality, goalscoring pedigree, and history with the club made him an ideal candidate. With that door now closed, focus shifts to Langstaff—but Rovers may have to box clever.
The Millwall striker fits the profile of a long-term investment, but patience and timing will be key if that deal is ever to materialise. In the meantime, Darrell Clarke must balance ambition with pragmatism as he looks to complete his forward line.
