Peterborough United Transfer Saga Finally Draws To A Close

Peterborough United can finally breathe a sigh of relief after it was revealed that winger Kwame Poku will join Championship outfit Queens Park Rangers.

The 23-year-old’s exit from the Weston Homes Stadium had already been confirmed at the end of last season, having contributed 30 goals and 30 assists in 147 appearances since joining from Colchester United in 2021.

His availability had drawn the attention of a host of clubs from the Championship and abroad, with over 20 clubs interested in acquiring his services. It appeared as if the saga was nearing its end earlier this week when it was revealed that Peterborough had agreed deals with three clubs, including QPR and Swansea City.

Scottish giants Rangers were also said to have been in the running, although that potentially could have been a blow for Posh. Although Poku was out of contract, they are due a fee due to the player’s age. However, this could be considerably lower if he had made the move to a club outside of England due to FIFA regulations.

QPR Revealed As Poku Destination

Loftus Road was named as one of Poku’s potential destinations earlier this week. It has now been reported that they have completed the deal, with renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano breaking the news. Taking to ‘X’, he said:

“Kwame Poku has signed in as new Queens Park Rangers player right now. All sealed. Deal 100% done.

“Excellent addition for QPR.”

The news serves as a double boost for the Hoops this week. They finally revealed Julien Stephan as new head coach on Wednesday, with the Frenchman formally replacing Marti Cifuentes. Their former boss was put on gardening leave in April after reports emerged that his entourage had held talks with West Bromwich Albion over their vacant position. His exit was formally confirmed on Tuesday.

Writer’s View

This is an excellent signing for QPR and one that can be viewed as a serious coup. It is thought that the majority of the Championship had at least expressed in Poku at some point over the past few months, so to win this race will provide a huge boost ahead of the new season. For Peterborough though, they can finally move on from the saga with some extra cash in the bank. Posh will be targeting a more successful campaign for the coming season following their disappointing showing over the last 12 months.
