Plymouth Argyle Secure Deal For Top-Flight Forward

Plymouth Argyle look set to sign striker Owen Oseni as they seek to replace the outgoing Ryan Hardie.

The Pilgrims lost their long-standing servant this summer to Wrexham following their promotion from and Argyle’s relegation to League One. Purchased for a fee believed to be in the region of £700,000, Hardie signed a three-year contract at The Racecourse Ground after his relegation release clause was triggered.

Plymouth Recruit Striker

With Hardie and Mustapha Bundu having both left, New Argyle manager Tom Cleverley has no senior strikers at his disposal. However, this is about to change as Plymouth Live have reported that the club have agreed a deal with St. Mirren to sign 22-year-old Owen Oseni.

The former Derby County youth player made his senior breakthrough two seasons ago with National League side Gateshead, scoring 14 times in 28 appearances. This earned him a move to the Scottish Premiership with St. Mirren, but he has struggled since arriving in Paisley, going without a goal in his eleven appearances so far, all of which came from the bench

The news comes after Argyle missed out on another striking choice in Portsmouth‘s Christian Saydee, who has since gone to League One rivals in Wigan Athletic. Ryan Lowe’s side have invested heavily in forward positions, also signing Paul Mullin on loan from Wrexham.

Writers’ View

This will not be Plymouth Argyle’s only forward signing of the summer so Owen Oseni should be viewed through that lens. He is a player who has not yet fully found his feet in senior football and has been given very few chances after his big break at St. Mirren. He will be a strong support player to whoever else Tom Cleverley opts to bring to Home Park, and someone that will begin to perform further down the line. Alongside their academy player in Joe Hatch, Argyle now have two forwards to develop for the future.
