Leicester City Already Have Ruud van Nistelrooy Replacement Lined Up

Leicester City will sack Ruud van Nistelrooy and replace him with Sean Dyche at the beginning of next month, according to journalist Alan Nixon.

The Foxes are set to return to the Championship just one year after winning the division. After sealing at instant return to the Premier League, they suffered a dreadful campaign which saw them part company with Steve Cooper in November.

A change of guard failed to turn around their fortunes, with the former Manchester United striker losing 19 of his 27 games in charge in all competitions. It was widely expected that he would leave the King Power Stadium in April after their relegation was confirmed. However, he still remains in charge as the clock ticks down to the start of next season.

Reason For Sacking Delay Revealed

It is now claimed that Leicester are yet to wield the axe due to the financial implications of sacking two managers in the same financial year. Instead, they will wait until July 1st to confirm the news, with the Dutchman’s replacement already lined up.

Sean Dyche has been one of the frontrunners for the role for several weeks now. After leaving Everton in January, it is said that the 53-year-old will take charge next season. His acceptance of the position depends on two factors though. The first is that the East Midlands-based outfit are likely to be docked points due to past financial breaches, whilst their transfer budget is set to be lower as a result. Despite that, the former Burnley boss is still believed to succeed van Nistelrooy.

Dyche has spent the majority of the past decade in the Premier League but does have previous success in the Championship. He has twice won promotion from the division with the Clarets, one of which saw him win the title in 2016.

Writer’s View

Few will deny that this has been a messy situation and you have to feel that Ruud van Nistelrooy is fully aware of the situation. Keeping him hanging on so long after the previous campaign is unfair, especially as many other teams already have their plans for next season in full swing. However, Sean Dyche would be an excellent choice to succeed the ex-Real Madrid attacker and his reputation would surely give him time to build his own squad. Although it has been almost 10 years since he managed in the Championship, his appointment would still make Leicester one of the favourites for promotion.
