Queens Park Rangers Make Transfer Stance Known Following Two Bids

Queens Park Rangers are holding firm in their hopes to keep Jonathan Varane at the club as new bids have been submitted.

The R’s midfielder has been a subject of interest from across Europe this summer, following a disappointing season for the Loftus Road side. Varane joined the club from Sporting Gijon at the start of last season for an initial fee of £875,000 and played 43 times across all competitions.

Two Sides Bid, Third Expected

A return to Spain has previously been mooted with Espanyol submitting a bid at the start of the month, which was rejected as it fell short of Rangers’ valuation of the Frenchman. However, the La Liga side have been joined by clubs across Europe in trying to lure Varane away from Loftus Road, with West London Sport now reporting that both FC Basel and Rapid Vienna have both lodged their own offers.

They are not alone in this latest round as it is also believed that Saint-Etienne will make an approach despite their relegation into Ligue 2. Varane started his career in France, with the Martinique international playing for Lens and Rodez before moving to Spain. This interest comes despite Rangers signing the 23-year-old to a new, long-term contract in May.

QPR have already made business in midfield this summer, with the signing of Jaylan Pearman on a free transfer from A-League side Perth Glory, whilst they have also secured Sam Field to a new contract.

Writers’ View

Even despite securing him to a new contract for multiple years, Queens Park Rangers are in real danger of losing Jonathan Varane. New interest from three different sides suggests that they believe that a deal is there to be made, and should they table the right fee then The R’s will sell their prized possession. With the quality of sides coming in, especially those that will have European competitions to deal with like FC Basel, Varane could be lured away by these approaching clubs. But QPR hold all the cards in this battle, so it will be unsurprising to see the 23-year-old line up at Loftus Road for kickoff next season.
