Southampton Set Asking Price As Interest Grows In Key Star

Southampton have set an asking price of €60 million (£51 million) for key star Tyler Dibling, according to Caught Offside.

The 19-year-old has just enjoyed his breakthrough season at St Mary’s. He was the one shining light for the club throughout the last year as the Saints finished bottom of the Premier League on just 12 points.

The midfielder also broke into the England under-21 setup, although was due to be a part of the under-19 squad for the upcoming European Championships. However, he has been forced to withdraw through injury.

His form on the south coast has attracted plenty of admirers, with Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig first to express an interest in January. It was widely reported that the Germans were keen in January but were met with resistance from Southampton.

Dibling Set For Summer Wrangle

The teenager is widely expected to depart the Hampshire-based club this summer as Will Still’s team gear up for life in the Championship. An array of Europe’s elite are expected to join the race, including Premier League champions Liverpool, Europa League winners Tottenham Hotspur and Portuguese giants FC Porto. Manchester United, Newcastle United and Chelsea are also believed to be keen.

It is said that the Saints are willing to cash in but won’t accept any offers below the £50 million mark. The report also claims that whilst Manchester United are monitoring his situation, they view the versatile youngster as one for the future and are unlikely to make a move this summer.

Dibling made 38 appearances in all competitions last season, scoring four times and contributing three assists.

Writer’s View

Tyler Dibling is the latest in the conveyor belt of exciting young English talent and it’s no surprise that his availability has alerted a number of clubs. It has been a dire 12 months for Southampton but the emergence of the young star is perhaps the only highlight. He is set to land the Saints a hefty pay day which will only bolster their chances of immediately bouncing back to the Premier League. However, £50 million for a player who has just 34 senior league appearances is a leap. Should he depart St Mary’s as expected, they may need to lower their expectations. It could be that they negotiate a hefty sell-on clause to soften the blow.
