Walsall have decided to cash in on key player Taylor Allen this summer, sources have informed The Real EFL.
The 24-year-old has emerged as one of the standout players at the Bescot Stadium since arriving from Forest Green Rovers in 2022. He has captained the side on several occasions and has racked up over 100 appearances.
He was an almost ever-present last season, missing just one game through suspension. Capable of playing in either defence or midfield, he contributed an impressive 11 goals and eight assists in all competitions as the Saddlers missed out on promotion.
Walsall looked destined to return to League One for the majority of the campaign. They led League Two by 12 points in January but suffered a dreadful loss of form to eventually miss out on a top three finish. Bradford City’s last minute winner against Fleetwood Town on the final day condemned Mat Sadler’s side to the play-offs, where they eventually lost in the final against AFC Wimbledon.
Allen Availability Alerts League One Clubs
With Allen’s contract set to expire next summer, Walsall will look to cash in now in order to avoid losing him for free in a year’s time. This has alerted a host of League One clubs to his availability, but there is one club that has emerged as the frontrunner.

We have been informed that Wycombe Wanderers are currently working on a deal to bring the versatile player to Adams Park. The Chairboys appear to be leading the race over several of their division rivals as they look to recover from their own promotion disappointment.
Similar to Walsall, Mike Dodds’ side appeared to be in pole position in the race for success, but also dropped off towards the end of the season. This saw them slip into the play-offs, where they exited at the semi-final stage against eventual winners Charlton Athletic.
Wycombe have already made waves in the transfer market, bringing in attacker James Tilley from AFC Wimbledon.
Writer’s View
Despite Walsall’s failure to achieve promotion, Taylor Allen is a player that can hold his head up high. Although it is likely to be reluctant, the Saddlers know that they can attract a decent fee for the ex-Forest Green man and it’s wise to explore that rather than lose him for free next summer. It’s no surprise that there are several League One clubs that have enquired about his services and Wycombe will be delighted to win the race if they can get this deal over the line.
