Cardiff City midfielder and managerial candidate Aaron Ramsey is set to leave the club to take up an offer with Mexican outfit Pumas, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The 34-year-old rejoined the Bluebirds in 2023, 15 years after departing the club for Premier League giants Arsenal. However, his second spell has been hampered by injuries and despite starting the first four games of last season, he made just eight appearances.
The ex-Welsh international found himself in the headlines in April following the decision to part company with Omer Riza. The former boss was axed following a 2-0 defeat at Sheffield United which left them languishing in the relegation zone. Ramsey was handed the reins on an interim basis until the end of the campaign, but a run of two draws and a defeat saw them finish bottom of the Championship.
Ramsey Heading To South America
There had been rumours that Ramsey was in contention to land the job on a full time basis. Although it is believed that the Cardiff hierarchy are keen to bring in someone with League One experience, the midfielder was still thought to be on a shortlist of potential candidates.
The only sticking point in the scenario was that the former Juventus player was not ready to hang up his boots. The prospect of a player manager wasn’t really on the cards, leaving the likes of Ian Evatt and Des Buckingham as the front runners.

It now appears as though Ramsey is ready to take the next – and potentially final – chapter of his playing career with Liga MX side Pumas. According to Romano, the signing will be confirmed in the next few days.
Writer’s View
Although Ramsey will have ambitions of moving into management in the future, the Cardiff City position perhaps came a little too soon. He will no doubt love to take the role at his boyhood club at some point but he still feels he can dictate things on the pitch rather than the sidelines. Pumas is somewhat of a shock move but if he can stay fit, it is a league in which he can thrive. Their new season starts next month so he will be able to start his new journey immediately.
