Huddersfield Town Manager Reveals Summer Transfer Plans

New Huddersfield Town manager Lee Grant has revealed his early transfer plans for the summer window.

The Terriers have already signed two players, with former Preston North End midfielder Ryan Ledson and former Ipswich Town and Derby County winger Marcus Harness making the early moves to the John Smith Stadium.

Getting Business Done Early

Talking to Yorkshire Live, Grant claimed that although he’d like to finish his transfer business early, he acknowledges that this might not be the case.

“The reality is very different, because the level of player that Huddersfield Town are pitching themselves for. We have to do a lot of work to secure those players, and some of those players, unfortunately, will take a lot of time to get through the door.

“If that means that some of this recruitment process leaks into the first few weeks of pre-season and while we’re away, I’m okay with that. We would love to have the bulk of the boys in and ready to work on day one, but it’s never the case. I’m not sure any football club has ever had that.

“It’s not just about who’s coming in the door, and we’re very much about what we’ve got, what we can develop, what we can improve, and what we can sustain that’s already been good.

Without a doubt, there’s been some really good work in terms of recruitment that’s gone on previously as well, and I’m really excited to get started working with these boys. I want them to come back in with the same energy and the same enthusiasm to grow, develop and be better themselves, and that gives us a really good chance to have a good season.”

Huddersfield Town’s Push For Promotion

There’s no doubt that Huddersfield are pushing for promotion back to the second tier after a season in League One.

Whilst last season’s campaign didn’t go to plan with the side finishing 10th, 14 points off the play-offs, their early-season ambitions with a new manager at the helm make their ambitions for the 2025/26 season clear.

Whilst every club would like to get their transfer business done before pre-season starts, this almost always isn’t the case, with new manager Grant understanding the difference between an ideal world and reality.

As the 42-year-old also mentions, although 11 players have departed the club this summer, the 18 remaining players are players who provide Grant with building blocks to build upon.

Huddersfield’s business has already got off to a shrewd start, with Ledson and Harness, two players who are more than capable at this level, joining the club. However, Grant and his team will be looking to make further additions to the squad to increase their chances of having a good season in League One.

It’s fair to say the third tier is a weaker league than it was last season, with the likes of Birmingham City and Wrexham achieving promotion to the Championship. This is a perfect opportunity for the Terriers to go for promotion.
